I just got over a cold, and it always feels like there's a piece of phlegm sliding up and down my throat... I can "swallow" it but it just comes right back up again. So gross. And I can't cough it up either. What can I do? Water won't "flush" it down either, I guess because it's in the tube that goes to my lung... Please help!

It's called post nasal drip. I get it too. If you can take sudafed or another decongestant for a few days, or suck on some cough lozenges such as Halls, it will help. It should clear up in a few more days,
Post nasal drip can also be caused by algeries. If it continues, you can check with your doctor about taking medication for alergies.

I have the same problem when my sinuses are feeling irritated by allergens. I use a high volume low pressure saline solution to rinse my nasal passages which is soothing and helps with the post nasal drip. The name of the product is called Neil-Med and can be found at most drug stores (depending on where you live).

I have a neuromuscular conditions and I get the same problem. I can't swallow itor my saliva at time. Sometimes eatting something hard helps, like a bowl of hard cereal, but most times it is real annoying and nagging and I can't fix it either. Try a hard cookie or cereal sometimes it gets it to go down.

it i smost likely to be post nasal drip. it could however be esophigitis from reflux or a thyroid nodule. if it is a feeling of something kind of stuck and you just cant get it out, i would have a doctor take a look. if its nothing, then good.

If only there were some phallic shaped object that you could use to slide ever so gently in and out of your throat.......you know....to use as a plunger or something.......If you need assistance, i'm sure i could um..."come up" with something....
