Spiritually I have no idea which christian, jewish, or other cult you follow and they all have their own rules because the men who wrote the rules were embarrassed by menstruation.
Medically it is wrong. Menstruation results in a loss of blood which the body needs to replace and, especially, a loss of iron. Fasting will not allow the body to make up for these losses as well.

Why would you want to??
The female body burns almost twice the calories while it is menstruating than normally.
This means that since your body is working twice as hard, you need essential nutrients, water and protein to create the calories necessary to keep your glucose at a steady level and provide the energy to get through your day.
Fasting isn't a good idea anyway, since it can lead to dehydration. However, if you must fast for religious reasons, consult a nutritionist or a physician to get information on what alternatives you can consume during the fast to help negate the loss of nutrients you will experience.

it is not unclean when you are bleeding it is a cleansing mechanism like some one said. medically i would say no don't fast as your body needs the nutrients to heal and recover and replace what is lost. but if it is part of your religious beliefs then you should be able to eat and drink after sunset this is what most religions allow. irecently did the lent fast and because i am on medication four times a day i spoke to my doctor about it and also how it would affect my cycle and the best foods that i could eat as we give up much for lent. just because your menstruating it does not make it invalid the only ones who believe a woman is unclean and her fast is invalid is muslims.

No, and its not terribly bright. Menstruating is simply a cleansing but depriving the body of food and water can cause serious medical issues. The later stage of menstruating requires the capillary beds to heal, this requires a little extra energy and protein and women need lots of water, especially during menstruation.

Drink more liquids at least.
This question, if legitmate, sounds like a leftover cultural taboo condoned by St Paul - somewhere.
Consider the source of this - was it from a man? Then they don't know sh!t from shinola about women's plumbing.
If you are fasting for knowledge or inspiration (which isn't as effective as reading), you're 'Right'. If you're fasting every 28 days because of a legend, perhaps reconsider.

No. Women need extra nutrients at that time, not less. Plus hunger would only exacerbate any moodiness as the body begins to scream for nourishment through its powerful shift in hormones.
Healthy, well-balanced meals of protein, iron, and carbs and B vitamins are essential, and helpful is calcium and omega-3s.

It's neither right nor wrong. Fasting certainly won't hurt you during menstruation as long as you are otherwise healthy and not anemic from abnormally heavy bleeding...or some other reason.

No if a woman fasts while she is menstruating then her fast will be invalid. Same for Salat, if a woman prays Salat whilst menstruating then it will be invalid. A menstruating woman is not clean to perform these religious duties.

It's fine. I've done it plenty of times.
I also think it's okay to adjust your fasts slightly for health needs - You may just have to eat and drink a little something to take meds if you get painful cramps like I do...or if your anemic take in something with iron...be reasonable.

Jesus' teaching on fasting
M't:6:16: Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
M't:6:17: But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
M't:6:18: That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
DRINK WATER,BUT BLESS THE WATER FIRST.
PRAY WITH ALL,YOUR HEART,SOUL AND MIND.
