It's not a question of belief. It's a question of solid scientific data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Global warming is real and mostly caused by us. Three reasons, with solid support, most important first.

There's an overwhelming amount of peer reviewed scientific data that says that. Short and long summaries.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

There's a large number of people who agree that it is, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy". Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

"climate science from climate scientists"

I first want to state the qualifications which allow me to say what I will below: I am an experienced field geologist (and my degree is in geology) working for an environmental consulting firm which does work in soil, groundwater, industrial hygiene, compliance, and air quality.

That being said, here is my answer: I DO NOT KNOW!

I have done a fair amount of research, and have come to the conclusion that there simply is not enough data out there to support either side. Many of the "facts" on both sides of the argument do not take in global trends and assume that change in a climate in one area is bad. This may not be the case as the earth is a dynamic system. If you dont believe me, ask a geologist!!! We can take you out and show you places where the ocean would have been over your head at times and where it would have been hundreds of miles away at others.

My point is this. People on either side of this issue are manipulating the truth, such as it is. The simple fact that many people on TV are agreeing with something does not make it so.

Do I think we are causing major damage to our environment? Yes, and I have many projects which can prove that we are causing harm. Are we causing our world to heat up? I am leaning towards not though I think we need to make some major changes to how we do things.

I dont think that anyone has done enough research. To be perfectly truthful, there is a significant amount of evidence pointing towards the idea that the earth is not heating up as a whole, though climates all over the world are changing. One system affects another.

Well this is a hard question to answer.
Global warming is a natural occurance and has happen before in the long history of our planet. Temperature highs and lows.
I believe that we have contributed to global warming and it is happening alot faster then what it would have done naturally.

If you saw the programme on dispelling global warming don't believe it. If you can find the manuscripts to the programme what was said was taken out of context and the scienctists that were interviewed are suing the programme makers.

So in conclusion yes i believe that we have caused the rapid inset of global warming.

i'm nonetheless a touch sceptical, regardless of the reality that i fairly care about our wild places. I do besides the indisputable fact that imagine that we ought to continuously take the probability heavily. The info proves that organic cycles of climate happen on a grand scale. there have been once lions, hippos and elephants wandering the united kingdom nation-state, about 100 and twenty,000 years in the past. That develop into an interglacial warmth spell. the element which could not disputed, is that those products ensue clearly, regardless of each little thing the Scottish nation-state is done of glacial sensible aspects. besides the indisputable fact that, the info signifies that our added contribution to global warming is making it ensue at a quicker price than existence can manage. we are speaking about climate change happening in a lot of years, really than spanning centuries or thousands of years. organic world has coped with climate change truly nicely contained in the previous. woodlands and grasslands can bypass at their snails %., to keep music of the situations that tournament them. presently there are added topics. we've our organic world trapped in wallet that are surrounded through farmland. The organic "corridors" are lengthy gone. organic world charities are doing their perfect to make our wild places extra joined up. If climate change maintains because it really is and there is not any area for issues to bypass, then we can lose lots. besides, i imagine my major issue is that i don't love it to be real.

As evidence, we are told that the ice caps are melting and the sea levels are rising.

But isn't it possible that the Earth is still thawing out from the last ice-age?

Granted, carbon emmisions and greenhouse gases are not helping the matter and are probably speeding up the process, but there are so many other factors, especially the Sun, which are all heating the Earth.

Temperatures and sea levels fluctuate. It is all part of the circle of life.

Yes I believe in global warming. I also believe that those people who don't believe in it are naive and stupid. Yet some people believe in God even though there is no evidence to it. Though global warming has been scientifically proven and some still don't believe it .Yes , we people are destroying the planet, yes we are making global warming worse and yes we are not doing anything to stop it. Even if you don't believe in it, it wouldn't kill you to try and do something like recycle, buyi energy saving lightbulbs etc. Some people just need to get over themselves.

No. It's not a question of belief. I've looked long and hard at all the evidence I can and the conclusion that humans are causing a dramatic and potentially catastrophic warming of the planet is the only one that even comes close to fitting the evidence.

Come up with a theory that fits the evidence more closely, and I will favour that one over the current best candidate. None of the opposing theories I've seen so far even bother to explain a small fraction of the evidence.

Science is not about belief. If it was, we'd still be burning witches.

ummmmm....no. I dont believe "in" global warming. I believe "in" Jesus Christ.

BUT I do think that global warming takes place on a regular basis throughout the history of the earth. It may be that our "cycle" is at hand...but there isn't enough hard science to support it yet. Just lots of THEORIES and NO DATA (or not enough data).....

There is alot of junk science out there being proffered as FACT like DARWIN's THEORY of Evolution being accepted as FACT...it isn't and Darwin, in his tretise even specifically stated that it was only a working hypothesis that was later moved to the status of a theory....it is still not proven to be TRUE so it remains a theory. Similarly, global warming is only a THEORY that has not yet been proven true.

That the Earth is warming is a simple fact. Belief is not required. One only need look at the temperature records to see that temperatures have been rising since approximately 1900 or so. The causes are not so quite so crystal clear, but there is no real debate any more. We are doing it.

The answer is beyond mere mortals like us, but I personally don't believe in it time will tell I guess.. I watched a programme on channel 4 a few weeks back and a load of scientists were discrediting the theory. There are many anonallies to the theory why is'nt the snow capped mountain of "Kilimanjero" melting in Africa for example?
After the fall of communism and the soviet block all the lefties have found a new cause to fight against capitalism with!! AND did you know making a log fire is more environmentally damaging then using electricity - where do we go from there????
