I had a Fox Terrier from the pound, I had him for a year and then he showed some signs of aggression so as much as i didn't want to I had to give him back. Now, i can get any dog that i want (with an exception of a few) We have a family dog, a malamute she's around 10 or 11 loves to play with other dogs. This dog would be a dog for me. I'm looking for a dog that loves to be around people, loves to snuggle, likes to play but not TOO energetic Any Ideas?

Get yourself a mutt. Since you have a malamute, you might want to get something about her size maybe a bit smaller. Maybe you could try a Boston Bull Terrier. They are little tanks that love people and can play as much as you want or they can just be laid back. Or maybe another malamute but a fixed male so you don't get puppies. Try your local shelters or classifieds.

You probably want to try getting your dog from a shelter. I am really sorry to hear about the bad experience with your fox terrier, but adopting can be one of the most rewarding things of your life. I would start by visiting your local animal shelter or pound, or checking www.petfinder.com. It is really important that you get a dog that gets along with your malamute, because you don't want your malamute to get behavioral problems because of a new dog in the family.

If you prefer a purebred for some reason, or just want to know which breeds suite you, then I recommend going to www.dogbreedinfo.com. Click on "find the perfect dog" and take the breed selector quiz. See which breeds come up, read through them, and discard the ones that don't suite your family. Go through the possible options and research, research, research. Talk to owners of the breed, look up all the information that you can, and truly think about whether the breed that you like will fit in with your family. If you want a puppy of a particular breed, then find a responsible breeder (do your research on breeders as well). If you want a purebred adult, then you can find rescues that only rescue a particular breed.
Whichever option you choose, always keep your malamute in mind. Make sure that she gets along with the other dog BEFORE bringing the other dog into your home.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

I would still go back to the pound or humane society and see if there is a dog that suits your situation. There are lots that need homes and if you don't mind a mixed breed, you're bound to find one that's right for you.

Don't feel bad or guilty about the fox terrier or listen to those that tell you that you were wrong to take him back. Aggression is very difficult to deal with and cannot always be resolved, even with training. If you have children in your home, an aggressive dog is never appropriate in the household. I work with a humane society and would never feel bad about adopting to someone again who had adopted previously but the dog ended up having aggression issues. Just because one dog was not right does not make you a bad dog owner.

Good luck - I hope you find your perfect pet.

Well it depends if you are looking for a small dog or a big dog. Labs are good dogs but if you are looking for a smaller dog I had a pekingese and he did a great job potty training he didnt have to much energy indoors but when he went out side he would be full of energy.

Thats sad to hear about your Fox Terrior. Its never easy to make decisions like that. Well I can tell you I have 6 chihuahuas myself and they are totally cuddelers! They love to snuggle up on the couch. My dogs all love to play...but normally only when I start it. They are very friendly dogs and get along well with others. (I also have a st. bernard, cat, and my parents have a lab and a chow that they play with.) So they are very friendly.

Dogs are for life. They are looking for their forever homes, not their "if they are good" homes.

There are so many options to turning a dog back into the pound.

My advice to you is to hold off on getting any more animals until you have the time, patience and willingness to work through whatever difficulties arise with an animal.

Sorry girl, please don't get another. Especially a Malamute, they can be very immature and difficult to train, you would not be able to stick it out.

try a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel they are really friendly to people but must be kept as inside dogs or else they get mean and messy(long hair) not a lot of grooming inless for a show dog. Oh and they don't get to big.

Just because she loves playing with other dogs does not mean she would like living with another dog!!
A puppy would be a bad thing. With your dog being as old as it is a puppy would have way to much energy for this dog!!
I would be very careful bring another dog into the household!!
Your older dog could start having behavior problems!!

Hi Lollypop, happy Friday.
I suggest contacting a rescue in your area. They will help you with breed information and it is a much better place to return a pet than the pound if it doesn't work out...

All the best to you.
I hope you will bless and be blessed today.

Spaniel type dogs are pretty nice. Be careful not to get one that is too nervous and yippy, but there are types that are calm, smart and obedient. Spaniels love to play and run, but they also will lie quietly with you until you are ready to play. Some sort of spaniel mix might be nice.

Good luck!
