How would a SAHM find a playgroup? I live in a populated area and I am not sure if there is a website or place I can find a playgroup.

Any ideas?

Try www.meetup.com

I'm just in the process of organizing my very first meeting through there for SAHMs (so if anyone is in the Lewiston, Idaho area check it out, our first get together is Monday April 30). I was surprised to find other people in my area had signed up since we're on the small city size population-wise. So, no doubt there will be something for you in a larger population area.

Yahoo groups have a lot of playgroups/moms groups. Browse groups in your immediate area.

There are dozens of playgroups in my town. Like a poster already said it's hard to find a good one. To me the problem is we all expect to get along because we have kids, but we forget we're all people, take away the kids and we have little in common.

Another good source is MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) an international group that meets at local churches.

there is a website called meetup.com
i wouldnt suggest a mom's meeting group. i tried it and i hated it. the leader (military wife) was a wife the "wore her husband's rank" which means that her hubby is high rank and she acts like she can boss everyone around that has husbands in lower ranks. i just read in American Baby this month about playgroups and howcome they fail,
the kids are not the same age as yours.
too much advice from moms,
issues with other kids, like the bullies and stuff
the moms are competive with the devlopment of their children comared to yours

WHY DID YOU LEAVE A PLAYGROUP?
30% said moms were too competive
29% said they had nothing in common with the moms
19% said the kids were brats
22% other

i almost forgot, cafemom.com!!

my wife is very big into mothers and more (http://www.mothersandmore.org/ ), as well as mom's club (http://www.momsclub.org/ ). The latter seems more about playgroups, the former about all-important time
_away_ from kids .
