I was very curious about this because I was planning to debate someone this week who has very religious points of view. I am wondering if it is a mistake since I will base my arguments mostly on logic

logic is a method not a substance to draw from

if you want a constructive discussion... it would be prudent to lay the basis for many arguments and clearly define fundamental principles before you begin then logic will proceed ,

otherwise

you will both appear illogical to the other

NOT because you are both being illogical but because you do not have a premise for other ideas...

you must establish what is 0 and what is 1
what is true and what is false before you discuss more complex matters

and so you know... just because you believe an idea to be true does not mean that is true to everyone else

Is it possible for a Religious person to have a logical discussion about anything? Yes, unless that topic in some way involves their religion. Remember, religious beliefs are not based on logic or reason, they are based on faith. They do not require logic to believe. It's not part of the recipe. good luck.

You have to understand that religious people have a different type of logic. You cannot say they are not logical, but our logic is based on a different set of "facts". You may not agree with everything they believe, but their logic is based on their own beliefs. You cannot discredit their logic because it is not based on your (or science) facts.

attempt asking a question that hasn't been requested beforehand. The "tell me why your god is authentic" argument is fairly over used, and Buddists do not believe in God besides. That type of question will not stimulate absolutely everyone's thoughts adequate to convey about a logical communicate.

logic? You mean like logically dinosaurs tails are hanging on the ground......that is logic.

Is it really logical to say the DNA double helix ' just happened ' ? If you know your science you logically cannot say either way. So logically you know nothing.

Well if you can get your fat head through the door to debate. You think you're pretty fine, don't you? Can you really debate religion without being nasty?

The view you will get is that nature and its wonders are evidence for God's exitence.
