I was wondering if religious people are concerned with the enviroment at all such as global warming. Renewable energy, polar ice caps, extinct animals ETC.

Or do none of these things matter because its all in Gods hands? Are scientists wasting there time preaching about environmental issues?

I never hear the Pope or other religious leaders talk about them. Why is that? or am I wrong?

Yup, you're wrong. - At least about Catholicism...

But sadly a lot of folks don't listen. Because just like sin, they don't want to give up their consumerist lifestyle.

Just yesterday I got ZENIT - which is a Catholic online newsletter. In it the pope is telling ALL the Catholics to get into living green.

We have priests and nuns going out into the world as ecologists as well as educators.

Sister Dorothy Stang went to South America to help small farmers there learn how to farm sustainably and reach modern markets. She was murdered by the people who wanted small farm lands for their cattle.

There is the National Catholic Life Conference - which says to support small farmers and end factory farms which are destroying the planet.

Up for president right now, our first vegan catholic environmentalist.

Veganism is THE way to save the planet.

There is the Catholic Conservation Center.

Should I go on?

I am religious and I believe that even our thoughts no matter how little a wave can have effects on the universe.
In one place where religion is a must. Saudi Arabia is a big desert land with sands and winds dancing in the heat of the sun. With less people that roam around shepherding their lambs and goats, the place is dry and arrid piece of seemingly wasted land.
They discovered oil and the rest is history for them. All kinds of people came building their homes and hopes for better future in life. Most Saudi's who found comfort in other places such as Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Europe or Usa came back and started to claim ownership of piece/s of land and oftentimes decided to stay permanently.
Now the dry and arrid place who never experienced rain for decades have their people enjoyably been going outside their homes and get wet from it frollicking like children. They never knew it will have rain and the reason why they make roads without storm drains or gutters and houses with flat roofs.
Where most people are, nature changes its course and that is the reason why man should be concerned about their contribution to the place where stay. If religion is not concerned and put everything in God's hand, then they really do not understand how the creation of God works. The scientists are more of Gods' representative to tell His people on how to be concerned in the world. They are our modern Prophets.
Always remember, Miracles of yesterdays are technologies today.

Do you know the greatest scientist ever?
It is God! So,tell me how religious people will not be concerned with environment matters. Every matter in this world has been catered for in religion.Well,my religion at least [Islam],I dont know about any other religion, makes us aware of our duties to everything and everyone round us.If these duties are observed as provided in the Guidance received from Allah, then we have little or nothing to worry about. I mean the religious leaders have been preaching about this for long, only people never got interested. People believe more in scientists for good things and blame religious leaders for every bad thing.

I'm religious and it concerns me very much.

True, I may believe that "God will bring to ruin those ruining the Earth," but that doesn't mean that I ignore the things I can do right now to help prevent any further damage from being done to it.

I love this planet that was made for us, so I want to do all I can to try to make it as pleasant as I can until God steps in.

My religion also does the same, taking care to use recycled materials, solar energy and alternative fuels whenever possible at our worldwide branches and facilities.

I'm religious and very concerned. People need to wake up, stop expecting some imaginary end times or rapture and start taking care of the only planet we have.

In Islam all that harms the environment is forbidden, It's Haram to cut down a tree (even in times of war) if you're not going to put it to good use.

Personally, I'm not even scare of what man have done to destroy the planet, I'm Catholic although to my knowledge Life Is God business, so I content my self not to destroy, what I can't fix, as well that I like to care, pretty much for everything he create for me, to see and glorified HIM, all the day's of my life, and forever.<> to some extend! .

I try to do what I can to help the environment. I recycle, don't litter, try to conserve energy and compost at home.
