I commited a bad mistake 2 years ago I tried to smmugle my brother to the United States and I got cougth. My reasons for doing it were family matters so far I have a good record and never been in trouble with the police, I was not charge for this. My question is would this affect me when I apply for the police department?

If you were not charged , booked, or convicted, you have a clean record. Be up front if asked about this, but if they don't ask, don't volunteer any info either. If you do, you are sinking your own boat.

It definitely would. Smuggling is a serious charge. Although you may feel guilty for your mistake, it will still affect you for the rest of your life when it comes to background checks.

Sorry!

Keep your lips zipped and go on with life. However, learn from that and never do anything illegal again.
This is America and you get second chances, use them wisely or you will pay the price.
If there were no charges pressed against you, then it is all off the record.

While it is not an automatic disqualifier, it will give a potential employer some great concern.

How many years ago did this happen?

If this happened many years ago and you have done great and wonderful things since, it might not play so bad ... if not, then you may have a hard tiem of it.

No not a bit, first it was not a drug issue.

This was not a conviction, so you have no criminal history, you will be asked about previous convictions and also about any previous drug use even if not convicted.

But this is no problem at all, good luck

Sorry, but yes.

Suppose you pulled someone over for DUI and it was your brother.
Could you arrest him? Would you arrest him? Or,would you let him go because of"family matters."
---------------
I could not arrest my brother. I'd hold him and ask for another officer to come to my aid and have him arrest him. But I'd uphold the law.

I've met cops that had juvinile criminal records or minor crimes behind them. It could affect you, but it's unlikely.

Uhhhh....YEAH!!!!

Ya think???

You are stating that the laws don't apply to you since you have more needs than everyone else....

No....we don't need anymore people in law enforcement with that attitude.
