Hi, I recently recovered from a really bad cold (about 2 weeks ago) and i seem to have cought another one, luckly not as bad as the first one. I was talking to my biology teacher about it and he said that because i workout; alot 3-4 times a week and have a low percentage of body fat i am more vonurable to colds. I always thought that if you workout you are less likely to get colds?

1. You can be more susceptible to colds and other illnesses if you are overtrained. Unlikely you are overtrained if you're only doing it 3-4 times a week.

2. Really low body fat can cause problems, but as far as I know, vulnerability to colds is not one of them.

I don't agree with your biology teacher. I would assume that your immune system would be stronger since you are in better shape.

Here is why you are probably getting those colds: Gyms are nasty places filled with viruses and bacteria. The weights rarely feel clean. I go to my gym frequently, but constantly use the hand sanitizing gels prior to touching my eyes, mouth, or anything else. If you can avoid the viruses, then you will avoid having a cold.

there is absolutely no correlation between having an elevated metabolic rate and the susceptibility to illness such as colds.
