Were all only 15 and its quite a large amount of money. he wants to buy an iphone, and they are all planning to contribute more money than i would give for a birthday. do you think this idea of just giving a large amount of money as a single present from a group of people. do you think this idea isnt really the spirit of giving, and poor etiquette. i plan to give him some money and a small present separately.

he has asked for money, and we cant buy the iphone. the issue is people are putting $50 in each. this just seems ridiculous to me, and i dont know why they think its necessary ti have to give so much. i just dont think this is how birthday presents should be given.

it is a little raunchy to give a wad of money to someone. my friends and i all pitched in to buy our friend a blackberry, but we actually bought it for her, not gave her the money to get it herself. i understand the iphone is not out yet, but maybe you guys should hold off on that gift until it does come out? even when i pitch in to buy a large gift, i ALWAYS make it a point to buy something else on the side. that year, my friend got a blackberry from 'us' and a hot purse from me.

like the person above said, if you want to give them the money, then do so in a card or money tree. if you do not want to hand out a bunch of cash in small bills, try an american express gift card,or something like that, that can be used anywhere.

The tacky part is not the group gift. The tacky part is giving money, but since y'all are kids (and I hope the birthday friend was not so incredibly gauche to actually *ask* for money. That's just about the height of tacky behavior) I'll let you slide. Just learn better by the time you hit you mid twenties ok? :)

That being said. Unless everyone is donating a set amount then a group gift will probably be better. The idea is that no one can see who gave how much and make judgments accordingly (does the friend who gave fifteen dollars care less than the one who gave 20?). If I were you I'd put my money in with the group and give the small gift at a later date.

I saved a bunch of money by getting my iPhone through the below promotional offer. Check and see if you can get yours before they run out!

Buy a money tree... if you don't know what they are, some greeting card stores have them... everyone can clip paper money to them in any amount... it seems less tacky then just money...

are you been a Cookie?, what is the problem that he/she can't handle the money?, I understand, but you should be able to decide what is best for him, or is this just a new way to show off, for all the rest of your friends?. so, then buy him/her what him/her will buy with the money, and make sure you get the received so if he/her don't like yours all taste, he/her can steal exchange it, and get another one, a/o what he want. its a gift you know???
