From the headlines:

"United Methodist Church criticized for pro-abortion alliance"

The pro-abortion group is supported by several mainline Christian denominations, including the United Methodist Church.

Mark Tooley with the Institute on Religion and Democracy (IRD) says this alliance between the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and the United Methodist Church does not make sense. But unfortunately, he notes, "this has been the trend among liberal mainline Protestant denominations over the last 40 years."

I find that ridiculously sad!

And whoever keeps saying pro-abortion is not pro-choice must not have all their lights on upstairs.
What's the purpose of being pro-choice? To be able to get an abortion freely - making one open to abortions, or
'pro-abortion.'

But aside from that, I think it's sad that a church would side with murderers. Cause that's just what they are, murderers.

Shows the times we are living in!

Heh their is a reason why their so many different sects of christanity they all share different views some are ultra conservitive and having a hieracy to rule you such as the catholics. On the other end some are collection of ideas about god who by their very exhistance are open to all points of view such as the Congregationalists. So if their religion allows free will and independant thought then a Pro choice organization would be right up their alley.

I would be interested to hear the reasoning of the churches involved.

Oh, LabGrrl...The United Methodist church IS Christian, it is just one denomination of the Christian Church.

Looking at both sides of the issue is not evil. The Methodist church cares for the mother and the fetus. This may anger some. People need to treat people like people and not like cattle.

I think this article is a little slanted... just because a group is pro-choice does not make them pro-abortion. It's a slight but very important difference in connotation. Most pro-choice advocates do not urge abortion in every case, and agree that abortion should not be the first choice of birth control. They wish to keep abortion as an option, but not as a first choice. This is important to note, since there are some pro-life groups which insist that pro-choice groups are immoral "baby-killers" and use other inflammatory language to paint a dark picture of what pro-choice groups actually advocate.

I think each church, and each person has the right to decide which options, and which alliances, are appropriate for their needs, and respect that other people may make the opposite decision.

Church and Abortion, two words that don't belong together. If anything churches should be working to prevent out of wedlock sex and to help mothers to keep the baby or give it up for adoption, whichever her choice may be.

This is America: Per our constitution we have the fundamental right to form an alliance with whom ever we choose.
It is called freedom.
Whether Mark Tooley is correct is nill.
Whether United Methodist Church is correct is nill.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion -
however -
it is not OK to judge because we do not AGREE with HIS/HER opinion.

No, because have the freedom to choose (pro-choice) to ABORT (kill) a baby (pro-abortion) is wrong at any point in the pregnancy. It is murder of an innocent life.

Freedom without boundaries is anarchy (i.e. murder by choice). True freedom is bound by love, design, and purpose and thus is life giving.

(John 10:10 KJV) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The thief is satan. What does God and satan have to be united about. Absolutley nothing. Absolutely never should a christian support abortion in any way shape or form.

For those who perpetuate the myth that pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion, please tell me when Planned Parenthood and their ilk ever recommend a procedure other than abortion for anyone?

Pro-choicers are all about abortion. The choice is always abortion, never adoption. The literature and the culture of the choice camp is about abortion. Period.
