I'm not talking about whether or not there really IS or ISN'T a God, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who would feel a hint of relief if we ever did find out that there was definitely no God and that we are"on our own," or however you wish to say it. I know that will almost definitely never happen. I'm speaking somewhat hypothetically here.

Maybe I just spent a little too much time in the fundamentalist churches when I was growing up, listening to all those sermons about fire and brimstone and such. I just can't help but think that knowing that there was definitely no God out there who would punish me eternally for doing something like going to the wrong church or for making that little mistake, despite the fact that I am an overall good person who makes it an effort to treat people as he would want to be treated.

I guess I just can't help but like the idea that this life is what we make of it, and that there is no God in the sky looking for reasons to get ticked off at me.

I would *love* to see it proved without a doubt, but you know it would not matter.

There are those who would simply go on believing, making fun of those who do not, and claiming that the results were fixed.

Too much of the wrong thing can leave you rather confused and I suspect - from what you write - that this is your situation (all those sermons ........)

The Bible specifically states that Jesus is the way to God. You surrender all to Him, accept Him as your Saviour and Lord and, He will make the way for you. In fact, He already did that on the cross at Calvary. The ball is in your court now. What are you going to do?

God is not waiting to cast you into a fiery pit and punish you eternally for this or that. He made it possible for your eternal life with Him through Jesus' sacrifice of His life for you and me. Do you want it or not?

Do not be confused. Do not vacillate between if's and but's and maybe's. Make a choice! His love is eternal. He said, "Cast your cares upon me for I love you." "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Come to me......and I will give you rest." I could go on but, it's really up to you.

God is real and alive! He is never going to be disproved, though many disapprove of Him. He will, however, say one day, "I knew you not," if you continue to do this dance until it is too late.

Being a 'good person' as humans go is not going to cut it with Him. There is only one way and even if you had killed someone (God forbid!) He cannot refuse your sincere repentence and still be who He says He is; who He truly is! He has to forgive you because He promised and God cannot lie to you. He does not know how to lie. His word says "Let God be true and every man a liar." Every man!

Get off the fence! Make a pick!

Although I can imagine how you feel (because you explained yourself pretty well), I do not feel the same way.

I believe living my religion should make me happier in this life as well as prepare me for the life to come. If, when I die, I wink out of existence, my religious life will still have made the journey through mortality better. I am happier day-to-day because of my choices and many of my life choices are influenced by the teachings of my religion (what I believe would be God's will for me).

I am not blind. I know that others see my life as restricted or sober, but I see their pain at the natural consequences that follow immorality and wonder why they choose to follow such a disasterous course.

Maybe you need to find a different religion or live more fully the one you profess to believe in. From the scriptures: Adam fell that men might be; and man is that he might have joy.

If the non-existence of God were somehow proven, I would be more disappointed than relieved. For, without a plan, a purpose, what is there? Pretty depressing, if you ask me. Why have children? Why bother eating? Why exist at all?

Good luck, you have a Christ, on you and if you can't find any closure to it, I can only imagine, and I which not to say, more, not because I don't want me too, but because i will be sinning, so I'm sorry if I was wasting my time, but yes there is a God, and your wishes will not be complete, if I couldn't tell you this the way I did?. as well that I will not be able to rest in peace, after reading your Q., been there done that. made the Lord guide you, and help you to get out of this one situation, a life. I will not which to be in your own shoes right now, and ever. and because the Lord, is wiser I encourage you, although keep in mind, each and one, of the Ten commandment's, God is your only Shepperd, in this one! .
There is not to late to find refuge in Jesus.

Your right ! God does not want anyone to go to hell , in fact
He Sent His Son Jesus for just that reason . A way to
righteousness & holiness so that we can live with Him in A
Beautiful World as He had first intended for us to begin
with . But you need to first come to know Him by His Word .
Remember , His Word became Flesh and was given to us .
We are all sinners and there is nothing that we can do on
our own to change that . Being a good person gets you no
closer to heaven . Its what in your heart and you need a heart
for Jesus . You need to read the bible . Jesus said . unless
you are born agian you will not enter the kingdom of heaven .
Nobody goes to theFather except thru Me . So when you
learn about Jesus you will and come to know Him , it will be
well ! like you said relief and a whole lot more . You will be
filled and fear death no longer . Because in Jesus there
is no death but , Life! . Don't give into this world and become
part of it , fight ! after all , it is your life that you are fighting for...

Isn't that the general feeling behind atheism? To be free from any ultimate responsibility. The God you are describing is not the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible loved us so much, that He sent His only Son to die, so that we wouldn't have to. He is looking for excuses to save you, not to get ticked at you. I'm sorry you have been given the wrong impression of who God is.

Boy do you have a screwed up notion of God. That is sad. God loves you and is not looking to send you to hell. He is waiting for you to believe in Him and His love for you. Jesus died so that you don't have to go to hell. Trust in Christ and you will be saved. That is the only reason a person goes to hell, rejecting the Savior. You had a bad Church experience, but that is the fault of people not God.

Why would the idea that you are alone comfort you? That seems odd. God is not looking for reasons to get angry with us. We give Him more than enough, that He doesn't have to look...It is called sin. Give your life to Him...He is real. God bless you.
