Cheap violins aren't usually very good. Have you gone to World of Strings on 7th Street? That is probably the best bet in Long Beach. Cruising the Recycler might find you something, but as a violinist, I can tell you that most violins are very poorly made--especially the Chinese factory violins.

Christoper (above me), has no idea what he's talking about... Long beach does have some great place, I will agree with that, but there are many places in long beach that are not the safest! Also long beach has many places that are on the cheaper side for living, that's if you're okay with living in a neighborhood, that's not the safest. And most places in Longbeach don't have parking, meaning you have to park on the street, and pray your car doesn't get broken into. Newport beach, is clean and very pricey. The crime rate is low, there is lots to do, however the rent is very very high. The two city, are apples to oranges.

You can try eBay. There is a seller on eBay that starts his auctions off at $.99 with no reserve. He has musical instruments and there may be a violin, not sure, but he gets so much stuff every day so there is a chance he may. Here is the link to his items for sale:

You can also just try searching "violin" on eBay and sort by lowest prices first. Good luck, hope this helps!

BOOO NOOOO! Avoid ebay/flea market violins. Have you ever heard "you get what you pay for"? Pay cheap, get a lemon. Trust me! I am a teacher who sees these pieces of crap come through my programs all the time. They are awful. Unless you know what you are looking for and that the quality is good, avoid it.
If you need a good instrument try renting. It's cheaper than buying, and you'll get a quailty instrument. Cheap instruments = expensive repairs to make it barely useful!
