I agree with Italy. I'm going to Venice in a month - it is very magical and special, and more romantic, I think, than Paris. All of Northern Italy is just incredible - from Lake Como to Florence. The scenery is beautiful, the food is excellent, the people are friendly, the architecture is fantastic. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't love Italy.

They are all gorgeous and have unique qualities about them. Italy is beautiful and romantic but one of the more expensive countries to go to. I've heard Switzerland is very beautiful as well.
Germany is fabulous--and a great thing is that they all speak english so it will be very easy to communicate with people.
IMHO, he should go to Czech especially. Prague is the most beautiful city and since they are still on the crown, less expensive for American.
Austria is gorgeous as well. Beautiful scenary, lots to do. And has a favorable exchange rate as well. However, english is not as commonly spoken there. They have a dialect of German that is even difficult for those fluent in German to understand. However, my time in Austria was the highlight of my entire trip. I took a bike tour through the hills to a lot of wineries. Spent some time on the beach. Loved it. Again, very scenic. You have the feeling you have gotten away from everything.
The dollar to euro exchange rate is not favorable so they will spend a good deal more in a Euro country. So I'd pick a country not using the Euro. Really your friend needs to have some idea of what he would like out of a honeymoon. Does he want time on the beaches, along the riviera? Old world architecture and museums? Or something more rural and out of the way, off the beaten path so to say. How long is the honeymoon? The appeal of each country is very different. A trip to Italy is nothing like a trip to Ireland--completely different interests. So it really depends on what his interests are and when the honeymoon is. I have no interest in going to Scotland in winter, nor southern Greece in August. If he wanted to ski the Alps though, I'd rather not plan the trip in June or July.
Of all the European countries though, depending on the season I would either pick Scotland or Greece. Those are the places I'd most like to go on a honeymoon. I've never been to either of them but they both sound beautiful and a tad bit more exotic than the countries that everyone goes to, like Italy.

I agree with Italy - along with France. I'd pass on Geneve (Geneva) Switzerland, as there isn't actually that much to do there as far as sight-seeing, etc. As to England, right now the exchange rate is so bad that everything costs a fortune - so I'd try another EU country. Beside's London's just a big city! If they've never been to Europe before they might just want to stick to Paris, city of light (and love)...

It really depends on what your friend and new bride are into. All European countries have their own charms and great spots but it all differs in WHERE in that specific county they would go. For example, big city Rome vs.Tuscan country-side.
If they are city folks, who really enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of the city, looking at monuments, visiting museums, shopping, etc. then big cities like Paris, London, Rome, Barcelona, etc. are nice. If they are more laid-back, nature and sun-loving people then, the French Riviera and Southern France, Italian country side, Swiss Alps and the islands of Greece might be their thing. I personally liked Venice, Florence, Nice and Cote d'Azure, since you get a bit of everything; city charms AND the country/beach. I also found the trains in Europe, especially in France, easy and convenient to use so your friends can also travel all within France and get a bit of everything that way also.

actually I prefer England. Italy can be extremely humid near and in the summertime. Austria can tend to be chilly. and Geneve, never heard of it. England is refreshing in the summer. Nice breezes, long walks down old roads, and great countryside. England is the place I like best to visit in the summer.
I hope my answer helps and that everything for you and your friends turns out right.
Good Luck!

These are all nice places, it just depends on personal preference. He could easily split the time between 2 cities- everything in Europe is so close. It depends on time of year- in the summer, he might want to stick to somewhere farther north- like Vienna.
