What would happen if you wrote 2 different checks, come to find out there bad, one for $400 and one for 900? My friend is in this situation, all he got was collection agency's... nothing on the law side as of yet, he lives in Iowa. If he starts paying on them payments, would they stop sending letters? Once and awhile would send them now. What can happen?

Earlier today you wrote a question regarding how you "accidentally" wrote a bad check for $32 and there is a warrant for your arrest. I, along with others gave you advice.

Now all of a sudden you "have a friend" that *oops* somehow wrote out 2 bad checks over $300, both of which are felonies. Don't try to use people on this forum to help give you ideas to commit fraud. Hope you like bars....you'll be staring at them for awhile when the old karma train rolls in.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia any check over $200 that is not made good by the consumer is considered a felony offense. I do not know what the limits are in Iowa but they are probably similar. When I collected on bad checks for my employer I gave the customer a couple of weeks to deal with the check and then if they refused to make good on the check or return the merchandise then I would go to the police and let them handle it. I had to go to court three times and all three times the offender paid the check in full before the trial.

Your friend should attempt to repay both checks immediately and hope that the collection agency doesn't prosecute too quickly.

When you write a bad check foir what ever reason it is your liable.
The first response is a statment form the bank account overdrawn
Next you get a letter from the Store or whatever place you wrote the check out too to come pick up the check and pay the fee.

When you do not pick up that check, the agency turns it over to collections and they prosecute.

It's a long story, but it does happen to the best of us. My bank told me not to worry, it wouldn't go on my credit report. Your friend needs to contact the companies and make arrangments for payments. I had to do that when my mail fell between the seats in my car...for 2 months. It looks better on the credit report if you cooperate. If you don't, the district attorney will file theft reports. Anything for 5th, 4th, 3rd degree theft. And that's a world of trouble. So it's best to work something out before that happens.

Writing bad checks can be loads of fun until you get caught. Keep on writing them...You can sell all the stuff you get to try to post your bail.
