Would you be okay if the salesman just acknowledged your presence and said, "I'll let you browse around, if you have any questions, you're more than welcome to ask. I'll be inside. Thank you."

I would be offended if I was there looking and after 10 minutes no one came out. I don't want to be hassled, but come out, introduce yourself, give me your card, and then leave. What I hate is when they do do that and then while looking a few more come up to you and ask if I was helped. You would think they would talk to each other.
I think they should put some kind of transmitter on the vehicle, if you want to see more, you press a button and then someone comes out to greet you.

I would LOVE it if that's all the salesman did. Most of the time they hassle you to death. We were car shopping one time and at least a half dozen different sales people came walking all the way out in the lot to try to sell us a car. We told every one of them that we were just looking - but they kept sending people. I think it's really annoying to be approached repeatedly when you have made it clear you just want to LOOK.

I wouldn't be offended but I certainly wouldn't be able to purchase a car from them. Infact many of the big name dealerships in area you cannot even get to the lot without passing through their lobby and open yourself up to all kinds of salespersons

Absolutely I would be OK with them making sure I know they are there and then disappearing. I feel hounded when there are salespeople hanging out right behind me. I am an adult, if I have questions, I will find the appropriate people to answer them.

No, I'd prefer it that way. I hate being trailed by a salesperson while I'm browsing and that goes for stores as well as car lots.

Personally, I would be fine with that. I know how to speak up and if I wanted him to stay, I would ask him to stay, I might have some questions. If I was seriously looking for a car, I would ask him to stay

Yes, and actually I have refused to buy from dealers who refuse to acknowledge my presence. If they are not even interested that I am there looking, how interested will they be if I have problems later?

No, I wouldn't be offended. That's how some lots operate these days. They are more low-pressure now.

I would expect someone to greet me but I hate it when they follow me around and get pushy.
