You are supposed to wait 48-72 hours. You may just have eaten something that was too tough. Your jaw will be sore for a while. Just hang in there and be careful!

I drank through a straw the same day I had mine removed. I had to because I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to eat anything. I continued to drink through a straw for next few days until I could actually open my mouth. My stitches weren't affected. My jaw ached but it was aching from the moment I had my teeth removed. You should see your doctor soon.

Anything that creates a vacuum in your mouth, other than drinking from a glass or cup, can lead to an excrutiating condition called a "dry socket." I was advised to avoid things such smoking, drinking from a straw or water fountain. I'd say that probably falls into the same category, although your dentist may not have felt comfortable mentioning it. Trust me, the explanation of how miserable a dry socket is convinced me to not smoke for two days; even during an 18 hour drinking binge on St.Patrick's day. I'd wait at least two days were I you. If your boyfriend loves you, and understands the risk, he'd probably be willing to settle for letting you rub one out for him rather than run the risk of another surgery that could put you out of action for longer. Sounds like you might have dry socket. That's when you dislodge the healing blood clot in the tooth socket. Apparently the most painful pain in dentistry.
I'd call your Dentist/Oral surgeon. There's things they can do to ease your aching jaw. Or go out and get some clove oil and drip it into the socket.

Your lucky you haven't started bleeding. When you suck on the straw, you actually can cause the area to bleed. Take it easy and be a little patient. Get Well soon.

you just weren't ready. give it a few more days. take some ibuprofin and relax your jaw. it may not be just the straw, chewing something that isn't very soft will do it as well.
