It's the best way to know and understand the character of God. It also defines the best way to be fulfilled in this life and the way to go to heaven in the next life. It can answer all the deep questions you have and direct you when you need direction. There is power in the Word of God that you cannot deny if you will but consistently search the scriptures. God will speak to you through the Bible.....guaranteed. I suggest you get another one asap to reap the many benefits yourself. If you can't afford one, I'm sure a local church will give you one or contact the Gideons. You probably have a friend who has an extra Bible or at least a New Testament. I pray you will get one and begin the journey for yourself. It won't be long that you will see "What's so good about reading the Bible" . God bless you.

Yeah, you can also go to school with no books, and what you learn will be minimal. The Bible Is God's Word, it's His Revelation to mankind. Reading the Bible is how you learn about the God you serve. The laws, rules, history, proverbs, praise and worship to God, prophecy full filled, prophecy to come, and even science contained in the Holy Scriptures provides the basis by which one can govern his/her self and be a better person. If you take a math course in school, college or whatever, and you never buy a math book, you will fail all your test because you will not learn. You will be discouraged, you will not be considered a true math student because you won't study, and you will eventually drop out. The same can happen to a Christian who does not read the Bible. He will get discouraged, drop out of church services and activities, and no longer fellowship with other believers. I believe no one can ever lose their salvation, but if you don't want to read your Bible, then I would suggest you consider doing some real soul-searching.

The Bible has unbelievable wisdom in it that you can't get from any other place. At one point in my life, before I got saved, I was a complete mess. My marriage was falling apart and I didn't know why, my job was a disaster and I didn't know why, my friends where abandoning me and I didn't understand why. I was so depressed I cried all of the time and I was exhausted and kept buying vitamins that I thought might help. I talked to a counselor but she didn't understand nor help. I spoke with a minister but she didn't understand either. I talk to every one I could about it but no one could help. Then I realized that I was all alone and that there wasn't a soul on the earth who could help me and that's when I began seeking God. Now that I've read and studied his word I understand why my marriage was falling apart. I realize where I had gone wrong at work too. The Bible had an explanation for every tragedy that had every befallen me and now I know how to avoid having the same things happen again. It's God's love letter to us. He wants us to be healthy in body, mind and spirit and the Bible is the only source for the answers.

Don't you know that without it, ( the Bible,) you would not know how to live as God desires?
Without living according to the Bible you will end up in Hell.
No person can serve God with the nature they are born with.
WITH
that nature,
WHY
should they read the Bible,
OR,
want to read the Bible;
OR EVEN,
really be able understand it
EXCEPT,
where it informs them that they need to get saved.
A person like that, needs this evil nature radically eradicated or executed by God, and the Spirit of God, to come in and replace that sin nature, which is the old nature or the nature with which they were born with.

It is difficult to read the Bible from cover to cover. You'll never get past Numbers. You should try picking a chapter in the New Testiment like Romans or Matthew and read a little at a time.
You will learn a lot that way.

You should WANT to read the Bible, not think you don't need the Bible to get to heaven. You read the Bible so you can find out how God wants you to live your life, and to obey. Reading the Bible is also helpful in other ways, to encourage you, cheer you up...etc. God will judge so I wouldn't be so sure if I were you.

So, based on what authority or evidence do you believe you are going to heaven? Being a good person? Doing good works? If so, do you think you can pay your way into eternal life? That Jesus, who paid the price, died in vain? By what do you gain your assurance? Have you been there and back to tell us?
You can say what you will. But when you are in front of the Judge, it will not fly--and it will be too late by then.

Not much good if you don't get anything out of it. It is true that you can go to heaven without ever reading one, but why. If you have the chance now to read God's word, why would you not?

Aside from the spiritual aspect of it, the Bible is perhaps the most important literary document in all of Western history. It explains culture and social norms that continue to persist today. You can find out what some expressions mean and where they came from (a shibboleth, scapegoat, etc). Also, reading the Bible generally makes you more educated so that you can reject the hate mongering that is so common amongst so many "Christians" in the world today.
