This is not the ordinary toolbar of useful stuff. I am referring to a bunch of Microsoft crap, that says "Customize links", "Free Hotmail", "Windows Media," and "Windows."

I don't need any of those. I know how to customize links without this. I will never go back to using Hotmail. I like RealPlayer better than Windows Media. And I am planning to kiss off Windows forever and go Linux soon. So I just want to free up the space on my monitor now being taken up with that Bill Gates garbage, buttons that do not even shortcut you to something you want anyway but just dump their advertising in your face.

So how can I get rid of that pesky bar and recover some useful screen space?

Oh, BTW, I have XP-Pro and Firefox.

This is not about just getting rid of the links. This is about wanting to get rid of the entire bar, since it is wasting screen space.

I assume you are referring to something that is always there and is not part of the browser.

Have you tried right clicking to see if there is an exit. Check in the "startup" folder in "all programs" to see if there is something starting that displays the menu.

Usually you can go into View > Toolsbars in the menu and turn off any bars you do not want. If that one will not turn off, then it is probably some kind of a "spyware/adware" program.

Recommend you download a good spyware scanner (such as the free Skybot.com from http://download.com ) and run it. It should remove any spyware/adware installed toolbars.

That's the easiest crapware to get rid of. Just go into Firefox and turn it off... depending on your version, there should be a menu option called "toolbars"... find the offensive one and turn it off.

try right-clicking on an empty spot at the top of the toolbar and uncheck the unwanted links

right click it and a list of all the task bars comes up the one that is on your internet page wil have a tick next to it - click next to it so the tick comes off and so will the bar.

good luck hope it works.
