I was just wondering how many Christians here have read the Bible cover-to-cover. If you have, did you read it before your conversion (or before you got "saved" or "born again" or whatever your denomination calls it)?

I saw a poll about this on a different site a few weeks back and was curious about what the results here would be. Thanks!

(P.S. - if you're not a Christian, please indicate so in your answer so I get moderately "accurate" results :-P)

When I say "cover to cover" I am not speaking of the method used to read it or in what order. I merely mean the book in its entirety.

I was raised in an Evangelical denomination. After reading the Bible, I renounced my former confession and was baptized Nestorian.

There is really no benefit to reading The Bible "cover to cover" It was not intended to be used in that way... I am of The True Christian Faith... I came to God at age 53, just 7 yrs ago... if I can come to an understanding of 10% of The Bible before I leave this mortal world I will have done good... The study of The Bible is a lifetime work... and I got a very late start... I would be very doubtful of any one who claimed to "know" The Bible just because they have read it cover to cover up-teen times... just because someone can "quote" The bible dose not mean they understand it.... some can quote and correlate the Bible like a human computer...that don't mean squat as they do not know The Truth of it.
The Bible dose not prove God... God proves The Bible to those who are open to His leading, through The Holy Spirit... only those open to God's leading will find what He has for them there.

Roman Catholic (yes, that's Christian) I read the whole bible cover to cover after I was confirmed but lots of it before:

Grew up reading the passages from the bible during Mass and some out of curiousity when I was little. In 7th and 8th grade, classes on religious education where we read the first books of the old testament. Then the four gospels by the time of my confirmation which for me equated to "born again"

Later, I got some kind of motivation to read the whole thing which I did, just to put things in order and perspective. I think I'd have read the whole thing whether I were a Christian or not - I simply read it as a significant piece of liturature.

I have not read the bible cover-to-cover yet. Before I was born again I had read some of the books, mostly in the NT, and have continued to search the bible afterwards.
I have heard and believe that the bible is not like other books, and not meant to be read cover to cover. It is like a puzzle that can only be fit properly together when a person believes in God and the Holy Spirit comes upon them and acts as a guide and interpreter of His Word.

I have been saved for 9-1/2 years and am currently working on my 7th time reading the Bible through. I had attempted to do this several times before I got saved, but never lasted more than a day or two. It is so important to be familiar with God's Word. How else do we refute the lies of Satan but with the Sword of the Spirit? Quoting "Jesus wept" will not help us much in our battles against the flesh. Even if you're like me and have a lot of difficulty in memorizing Scripture, I believe that if we have read the Bible through, God will provide the verse that we need when we need it!

At about the age of 35, I went to a shrink, because I thought there was something wrong with the way I viewed the world. I found that I was able to tell a lie or steal without haveinggreat feelings of guilt and remorse therefore, I would not, I could not

I could not understand why anyone would want to hurt someone else and why people got mad when others would not agree with them. I never like drinking, or fighting. And would not fight if some one want to kill me. I recall being mugged and I offered to write the muggers a check, because I viewed the mugging as them needing the my money more then I did. My Heart would feel if it was being torn from my chest if I saw a dead animal or bugs.

I could not understand the world.
I never went to church, or read the bible. Then at about the Age of 46 or so I read the Gospel of Matthew and I recognized the Words, I finally found someone else who felt about the world the same way I did, and His Name was Jesus, I believe in the words he spoke before I believed in Him.

I still do not go to church, but I long night and day to hear the Words, the physical church never speaks the words that I long to hear, I long to hear the commandments of God as spoken by Jesus Christ in my ears.

I give all that I have to hear the Words.

Actually, every time I start to read the Bible cover to cover, I generally get bogged down in research about something that gets my attention and get side stepped into a study by subject. Doesn't bother me though because I don't think it's so important to read the Bible as it is to understand and memorize it. Whatever we are lacking in knowledge of God, He will direct us into that study, at least that's what He does with me. But, I do think it is a worthy goal to have read the Bible through & through. God bless you. (I am a Christian)

Yes, I have read the Bible cover to cover many times. Before I was saved? No way. I could not understand word one, because the Word of God was hidden from my eyes to understand thoroughly.

I have read the Bible cover to cover many times. I read it AFTER becoming a Spirit Filled Christian because I had no desire to read it before because I did not believe it . I also found it boring and lifeless. Now it is alive and I enjoy it. It comforts me and I enjoy finding the hidden mysteries that pertain to me and give me hope and power.
