I heard about one; Camp Quest is a free-thought summer camp where kids get to do fun activities, such as try to disprove the IPU as a metaphor for the Biblical God. IPU, if you don't know, is the Invisible Pink Unicorn, who we know is omnipotent, since she is both pink and invisible. I think it's cool as anything, and I bet it gives some of you the willie nillies!

"Campers are taught that ethical behavior is not dependent on religious belief and doctrines, that religious belief and doctrines are sometimes a hindrance to ethical and moral behavior, and that irreligious persons are also good and fully capable of living a happy and meaningful life.

If you are uncomfortable with it don't send your child there. There are plenty of wonderful camps that do not teach anything either negative or positive about religion. Children need to go to camp to just have good old fashion fun. It's your job to teach your child what you feel he should be learning spiritually or that spirituality is not important. How you feel you want your child to grow up like is up to you!
This place sounds like a cult. It sounds like a place where atheist brainwash children. Teach your child to be a good person. To treat others right etc... It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not. Just be a good person.

I was one of those weird kids who liked to read and learn during the summer - I wouldn't have minded something like that rather than Hanging Rock Christian camp - where I felt like the odd man out on every activity. ;-) I would assume they would teach other things than just evolution though - maybe like a science camp or something.

I agree with the ideas that you say would be taught in the atheist camp, but wouldn’t this be doing what Christians have done to their children? This would kind of be brainwashing them into being atheists. I would rather be neutral with my children and allow them to decide what they believe on their own when they are old enough to comprehend it. I think a camp like this would lead these children to hate Christians. I am not a Christian, but I do not think we should hate them.

Sounds interesting. I'll bet your kids will be able to confuse the hell of out children who are pretty defenseless when it comes to arguing their belief system. I hope they have fun. It doesn't bother me at all, there will be more people who can debate because of this camp.

I find it laughable when atheists claim to be "free thinkers" while at the same time telling people of faith that they are "brainwashed".
Atheist summer, camp, what a novel idea. I wonder where atheists ever came up with that one?
Sure, it would be great for little atheist boys and girls to go to such a camp. Get their prejudices...er, priorities...straight from the get-go. Teach them how to poke fun at...ahh, teach rational thinking skills to...people of faith early.
Just hope that the IPU can protect them from the school bully who just happens to be a (insert name of your most hated religion here). Or you could just arm the kid, in case he gets really angry and wants to shoot up his school....um...defend himself from (insert the name of your most hated faith here) bullies who will tend to get irritated at having him poke fun at...umm...teach him to think rationally (I never can get that one straight). You know he's gonna be turned down for a date by that snooty little (insert the name of your most hated religion here) b#tch who thinks she's better than everyone else.
Atheist summer camp.
The logical choice.
*rolls her eyes*

I agree with the penguin...what in the world happened to just letting kids have fun? Why should we impose our adult ideas on them, even during their summer vacation? Maybe adults need a summer camp to teach them to be more tolerant of one another, sheesh.
And, for Lukus, didn't you know that child molesters come in all flavors? Yes, even atheists can be pedophiles. What better job for a pedophile, no matter what his personal beliefs might be, than a counselor at summer camp?
Sheeesh, is that all you people do, just sit around and think of more reasons to hate people who don't think like you do?
"Free thinkers" my left buttock......

I think that would be good without all the religious baggage.
And the children wouldn't have to worry about getting molested either.

The IPU is false god of a false religion. There is but one true god, the FSM (pbuhna).

Does everything in the US have to be linked with some ideology-whatever happened to kids just having fun?

Is that free-thought or amateur philosophy dished on kids? When I was a kid, I was more likely to think my counselors were dorks and just get in trouble screwing around.
