No problem. Just go ahead with it no offence has been committed by you either under Indian Penal Code, 1860 or under Information Technology Act, 2000 as some one is telling you here, it is better to keep ones trap shut if you don’t have any knowledge of law. Nothing wrong will happen to you till you have not made any statement to any authorities so authorized by law to take such statement on oath or any affidavit made on oath to them. Yahoo is a private party not any government authority or government authorized or appointed authority which is authorized to take any statement on oath from you. The maximum harm they can do to you is to cancel your registration if they are complained for any wrong information made by you, as the service they are providing here is a free service for which they have prerogative to stop at their sweet will.

Any thing 'false' is bad in law. If writing any 'false' information causes harm, in any manner what so ever, to any/group of person(s) or to the Society or to the Nation as a whole, then it is enforceable in law. If it does not, nobody will bother.
For example, if you write stories or poems in a "false" name (there were and are so many renowned writers who use nick or false names), that will never harm anybody. Hence, OK.
Similarly, if you have no BAD intention behind writing false information while creating your mail account, it is OK.

The law does not make you give fully correct information over the internet as long as money or goods are not involved. If you don't plan on any monetary gain by this information, you did nothing wrong.

I think you may get in trouble if you were doing something bad. But you can hide all your personal info. I doubt you can get into alot of trouble just for lying about your name. It's not like they can run a check to make sure you're who you say you are. Besides, if you did do something bad, that would cause the law to be involved, they'd be able to find you anyways.

You can give whatever information you want to Yahoo. This is not a crime by any means, unless you use your false identity to commit a crime.

I doubt it's illegal.
What Yahoo would do is ban the user from Yahoo services.
Did you read the Terms of Service? Does it mention the law?
IF he did this in order to commit a crime (fraud, assault, something that's actually illegal), then Yahoo would set the police on him.
But, no, he's just in danger of losing Yahoo services, including email, 360, and the rest.
