I have to cats that are under a year old. We waited to let them go outside just because we felt they were too young and may not learn about the dangers, well once we finally let them go outside they explored for a while but now they hate outside. I rather them be outside cats because they are going outside of the litter box and Im just so frustrated with them. How can I make them learn to go outside and not freak out. Or atleast to use the restroom outside. I have 2 older cats who like outside and do their business outside. Why are these 2 giving me such a hard time? Im fed up!

You people act like Im abandoning them at a busy intersection. LOL....Whats wrong with letting cats go in the back yard to play with the bugs and chase birds and squirrels....I have two other cats that do that now...I think its more torture to keep cats indoors like prisioners! You people need to get real!!!

It's a scary place when you are not familiar with it. One person each takes a kitten in their arms, and walk outside, holding them securely. Just let them look at first for the first few times.
That way they know mom's there to protect them.
Then take a walk a few steps into the garden and just let them see and sniff, then let them down for a few minutes, all very gradually. as soon as they relaise what's what, instinct kicks in. Be with them when they hear a car and see strange dogs so they realise the dangers of those.
One step at a time, gradually. Little by little.
Thank you for letting them be where they belong, and for wanting to teach them what it's about so they can be safe. Remember to have them spayed/neutered and have all their shots up to date.

Perhaps you kitties that are doing the improper elimination just are not happy with the TYPE of litter that you are using in the box. You may want to try and switch. Get a second litter box and try a new litter right along side the other litter box with original litter brand in there.
I agree with the rest of the answers where they say indoor cats are best.
Don't forget to get them spayed or neutered or you will have more than 4 real soon.

If you teach them with the litter box it is the best solution. Do you have a door on a covered litter box? That could be the problem. Or your litter box may not be clean enough.
I suggest you keep your cats indoors. The risks of going outside are almost infinite. Not only can they be eaten by a coyote but they could be attacked by a dog, hit by a car, or catch get FIP, FIV, or Feline Leukemia. Keeping your cats inside is just the best thing to do. Don't force them outside.

They're smart kitties.
Perhaps they're not using the litter box because there is only one? I like the rule of one box per cat...they're kind of picky where they do their business, if it's not totally to their liking they will let you know about it.
I'm a firm believer of indoor animals only, so I"m glad to hear that they don't like it outside. It'll keep 'em healthier to be in! And safe.
Good luck.

Well, if they hate outside, please don't force them
to go outside.I have 4 cats and I consider them to be my babies. The way to train your cats to go to the litter box, is pick them up and take them there
and put them in the litter box, providing the box is
clean. Then put your hand in the litter and scrape
like a cat would as if he or she is covering up the
business. Ofcourse, you can always wash your hands after you do this. Try it? This is the way to train them to go in the litter box. If this don't work,
then you may have to ask a vetinarian. I tried?
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Your cats will fair much better inside. If you aren't up to taking care of a litter box, then consider finding them a new home where they can love safely inside.

Cats dont belong outside. Its a horrible dangerous world out there and if you really cared about their safety and lives you wouldnt put them outside. If they arent going in the litterbox try scooping and cleaning them more, cats are very clean animals. You might also have to try switching litters if that doesnt help.

I strongly urge you to consider keeping them indoor only cats. Indoor cats lead much healthier, longer lives...less chance of illness, death and injury. Try keeping two litterboxes (one per cat) in a quiet part of the house and hopefully they will use their boxes. Please, for the welfare of the cats, keep them indoors.

Smart kittens you have there!
if you don't want to take care of your kittens please take them to a no kill shelter so someone who is willing to take care of them will be able to adopt them.
