blood in stool is a VERY bad sign. call your doctors office for the next available appointment.
possible causes:
Blood in the stool can be bright red, maroon in color, black and tarry, or occult (not visible to the naked eye). Causes of blood in stool range from harmless, annoying conditions of the gastrointestinal tract such as hemorrhoids to serious conditions such as cancer. First of all, how much ? If it is a large amount you definitely need to go the hospital today and have it checked out. Otherwise, it could be many different things, some serious, some not so much. Have you been having constipation lately? That could result in hemmorhoids (varicose veins inside the anus/rectum). There are many easy treatments to take care of that. You might be constipated though and it not be hemmorhoids, but an inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. I have had crohn's for the past 12 years (since age 19) which results in an annoying amount of diarrhea and scarring and inflammation of the digestive system but mostly bowels. You definitely need to get into a gastroenterologist and go through the necessary tests. A "GI" dr will most likely have you do a colonoscopy to check things out and while in there to check for colon cancer. You need to start figuring it out right away. I waited 8 months after the blood started and it was a time wasted when I could have been much healthier sooner. Good luck!

It could be a number of things. It depends primarily on what color the blood is. The brighter the red, the closer to the rectum, the fresher the blood is. If it is darker, it is older blood, thus it comes from further up the colon. If it has a terrible odor, then it comes from even further up the colon. Probably hemorrhoids or an anal fissure (tear) if it is brighter in color and no foul odor. Use witch hazel for quicker healing, and if you are concerned it is polyps or something like that or a tear further up the colon, you should see a doctor.

It COULD BE early warning signs of colon / rectal cancer or your period. Talk to your doc and let them run POSSIBLY: an O &C ( they collect the stool sample and the lab personnel go through it to discover any viruses / "odd" matter), a lower GI, or a colonostomy with rectal exam also. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm only trying to help. Don't worry, think positively that you'll be fine. Good luck!

Could be hemmroids if it's a brighter color blood. However it could be the beginning of a stress related illness. If it's a dark color could be an underlying problem you need to see a doc about. Make an appointment.

This most likely isn't stress. It sounds like you have hemorrhoids and you could use stool softeners to relieve some problems. Good luck.
