on the subject of my last question... i kept getting told by christians that god merely gave jesus to us and it is not meant to be taken that he gave up jesus. however, this contradicts what jesus said to his diciples at the last supper. he said he was GIVEN UP so that sins may be forgiven. am i missing something here?

To be "given up" means to be offered or in Jesus' case, sacrificed. God in a sense did give Jesus to us, but because Jesus was God manifested in the flesh, He had to be reconciled unto the Father after He died, or He'd be thought of no more than a mere mortal.

He said His body would be given up (sacrificed) for the forgiveness of sin and as we know, he later resurrected and ate with His disciples, meaning He had some physical form.

Would you give me the exact scriptures you are talking about?

He willingly gave up his spirit to God.

God gave his Son. Jesus gave up the ghost.

Today's take on the term "gave up" may have confused your understanding here.

God did not 'give up' on Jesus. They are one in the same.

He was totally given up. That is purpose for the famous question, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

He was sacrificed for us. If you ever let that fact get a hold of you, then it will change you forever.

Great question.
