The bible doesn't actually say the earth is 6000 years old. Modern Christianity has traced the age of man to be 6000 years old, through biblical genealogy + adding 2000 years from Christ. This is done to amplify the texts of the last book of the bible (Revelation) and with a bit of cross referencing to the minor prophets, you have the end of the world. Which is a good premise for attracting followers from a fear based, insecure society into a fear based religion.

Whether Christianity (Mainstream or modern) is correct, is yet to be proved, the same goes for evolution or any other origin theory or belief.

The first five Books of the bible (purported to have been written by Moses, but probably written after the Israelites settled in what was called the promised land - around the time of the judges) are Semitic legend, which can be traced back to the first civilisation, that of the Sumerians.

It doesn't because it isn't.

We can calculate the year Adam was created by the dates of the flood. That has been over 6000 years ago. Adam was created in the last creative day. If we are in the 7th creative day and it has lasted over 6000 years, then each creative day would have been at least 6000 years if not a lot more.

Genesis does not say when the earth was created, only in the beginning. Gen. 1: 2 "Now the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep.." So the earth was here before the 1st creative day and was made inhabitable in the first four creative days.

The genealogies listed in Genesis chapters five and eleven provide the age at which Adam and his descendants each begot the next generation in a successive ancestral line from Adam to Abraham. By determining where Abraham fits into history chronologically and by adding up the ages provided in Genesis chapters five and eleven, it becomes apparent that the Bible teaches the earth to be about 6,000 years old, give or take a few hundred years.

In the genealogies. That is why there are long lists of who 'begat' whom.

When you do the math, then it adds up to a timeline that can be reconciled with the Birth of Jesus Christ (the main Hero of the Bible). Though calendars have changed many times, we have a fairly good idea of how many years ago Jesus was born.

The Jewish calendar (based initially upon the Bible) show us being in the 5800's from Creation.

This does not require any faith or belief. This simply requires logical study of what is written in the Bible. The number is easily verifiable.

The Bilble dosn't mention the age of the earth. The 6000 years of the earth exsistance is erroniously taken from the geneologies of the bible, which date the exsistance of human beings to 6000 years. There is a time gap in Genesis. If you are interested in reading about this just go to your favorite search engine and type in Pre-Adamic, Pre-Adamite, or pre-adam world

That is pure conjecture based on the Biblical fact that the world was created by God in six days, and another scripture that says a day is as a thousand years to the Lord. I have no problem believing the Earth is substantially older, although I don't think it can be accurately pinpointed. Because God is eternal, He has no measure of time. Trying to quantify days, years, etc. is just a way to try and translate the things of God into something man can comprehend.

God made the Hebrew people keep records of the genealogies. Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible called the Torah. We've got "J, E, D and P" coming in as possible writers, but there is no valid reason to reject Moses as the writer except for the record of his death in Deuteronomy 34 which could have been added by someone who copied the books at a later date. Jesus Himself testified to Moses as the writer of the Torah.

Noah knew his geneaology from Adam and Eve.
Regardless of what non-believers think God wants us to know Him and for this reason He had the Bible written.
He protects His Word.

It doesn't, but through their deluded reasoning they figure that.

Scientists say the universe is BILLIONS of years old..... and the earth is approximately 3.5 billion years old. The christians try to include some kind of scientific basis to their beliefs so instead of the universe being created in 6 days (Incredibly unbelievable..... apparently even to those who believe god's power is infinite and he can do ANYTHING he wants) .... they make up this "theory" that MAYBE.. Just MAYBE god's "days" aren't 24 hours as our human days are. For every "day" god mentions it may be more like 1,000 years. So 6X1,000 = 6,000.

Which I find hilarious because all fossils found, all tests done on meteors and layers of the earth all indicate that the earth and universe are MUCH older than 6,000 years. They still try to put the bible side by side with scientific evidence to try to explain how long it REALLY took god to create the universe... but they'll always fail because the bible is not a fact book it is a story book. A story book that, obviously, is opened to so many different interpretations. Which I find funny because the bible's word is supposed to be absolute with no room for interpretation because it's "god's word."

God sounds a bit confused.

No where, that is pure speculation...some say 10,000. They have added this and that and assumed this and that and come up with 6000. Even if it HAD said 6000, we do not understand the measurement of time and space as it is stated in the Biblical history so we cannot assume that time in the Old(er) Testament is the same as we experience it today.

The writings found at the Dead Sea collection were carbon dated to that time, also just add up the scripture references about [man is 6000 years old] not the earth, which is millions of years old...
