Sciatica will always flare up when you overdo it with your muscles, once you have the problem. Keep that in mind before you do something strenuous.

At night take a hot bath with 2c. of epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. Afterwards apply an analgesic balm. These treatments will help relax the muscles And when the muscles relax they take the pressure off of the sciatic nerve.

I recommend you see a chiropractor as they are excellent in helping this type of problem. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

Sounds like a combination of sciatica and the baby riding on your cervix. I'm 37 wks w/ twins and they do it to me all the time! I get it more on the top of my right knee. It's a good clock for when I've been on my feet too much without a break when the top of my knee goes numb! The little pains in the pelvic area is because the baby is just sitting there and bouncing. It actually is helping you get ready to give birth because it helps to ripen the cervix. I usually at least sit down for a bit but if I'm at home then I lay down and raise my feet above my heart. Good Luck and Congrats!

I know exactly where you are coming from. I dealt with the same thing for a long time. Sounds like you have a herniated disk that is pressing on a nerve. It will not go away and will most likely get worse as the bulge gets bigger.

Don't see a chiropractor - There nothing they can do for you. I actually went to see one for the first time with my condition. He said See a Medical Doctor.

Does your scrotum sometimes ache? Everything, all the muscles are tied together in some way.

Talk with your doctor. There are a few things they can do without surgery. If that doesn't help, surgery is the next step. I had surgery about 5 years ago and have not had any problems since.

Having them take X-Rays will not show the problem. You will need to have an MRI. That way they can actually see the disk and confirm what the problem is.

As a chiropractor, I would have to examine you and do particular tests which would give me an indication of your condition. However, since I can't do this over the Internet, I will ask you some questions. You can respond to me at my email address (chirochrisf@yahoo.com) with your answers.
1. Does it hurt more when you bend over frontwards (flexion)
or does it hurt more when you lean backwards (extension)?
2. Does it hurt after sitting for a long period of time?
3. Is the pain sharp, dull, achey, etc (describe)
4. Is it located on one side or the other or is it in the middle?
5. Locate the top of your hip bones on each side. Then translate that around to your back and tell me if the pain is higher than your hip bones or lower. (That will better describe whether it is a lumbar issue or a pelvis)
6. Describe the pain in your butt. (sharp, dull, achey, etc)
7. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the absolute worse pain you could imagine, how would you rate your pain?

Ok, if you answer all those questions to me in an email, I can probably give you a good, educated idea of what the problem is and what to do about it. This will not constitute a clinical diagnosis. You would need a personal visit at a health care provider's office.

By the way, it is probably not sciatica. This is a greatly overused term and your symptoms do not describe it. My guess is either facet syndrome or S.I. joint pain.

I think you need a MRI first, not convinced it is sciatic pain as it is not traveling to the legs. Could be higher up T12/L1.

The only thing that helps me is a massage a month. It's worth the money and it feels so good...they just gnaw at my sciatic...it hurts SO good but at least I can move well afterwards

Have you tried chiropractic treatment or acupuncture?
With my pain problem I use a combination of treatments (including meds when I need to), but I find good relief and function from acupuncture. Each to his own. good luck:)

I'm not trying to be bossy or melodramitic, but let's see if I can tell you the short version of my story: I have chronic back problems and knew, as far back as 1988, that I had scoliosis and other issues in my spine (mine is a secondary condition of a birth defect). I was cleaning my closet, sitting down, 4-2-06. The permanent change I suffered didn't become noticeable until 4-10-06. I couldn't sit comfortably. Xrays confirmed that my spine had shifted severely to the left. After many doctor visits to get help for my pain (no pills worked for me because the pain is / was too far down for the pain relievers), I found a Neurologist / Pain Management doctor that did a permanent Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant 1-2-07; a battery / generator relocation ( it was too far back, and I had a problem dealing with the equipment used because of that) was done 2-27-07. There are restrictions until everything "sets" for 6-8 weeks after both surgeries, but this "bird" gets the restictions regarding this (there will always be some) lifted 4-28-07. I'm SO EXCITED!

Do you know what a vibrator feels like? The patient who has a Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant has the option to feel this, as needed, with the equipment issued. There is a clinician who acts as a advocate between the patient and the doctor regarding medical equipment issues. I don't know where you are, but a doctor who does this is: Dr. Andrew Konen in Dallas, Texas. His number is: 214.252.9432. I'm not diagnosing, but it sounds, from what you describe, like this might be a good option to pursue.
