I can only learn from someone who knows something I don't already know. That person might agree with me and be able to teach me more about things we both agree on.
More often, though, I learn from people who do not agree with me. Sometimes I have had to change my opinion about whatever we disagreed about. Sometimes I find that I was right. More often, I discover that neither one of us actually know what we're talking about.

Both. I guess if you are wrong, you'd learn more from someone you disagree with every time. Talking to people you agree with can give you more validity and proof for ideas you already have. Talking with people you disagree with can give you ideas you never considered, but it doesn't work for most people--they get so hung up on how to prove the other person wrong or win an argument that they learn nothing. Only a few people can argue with someone and still file the other person's arguments away for future consideration.

while I am sure you can learn a lot from people you agree with you (because they may have a different reason to believe whatever then you do) I think you might learn more from those you disagree with.
the reason is because they challenge you and your beliefs. odds are they disagree with you because they have a different view on the issues, shaped by the fact they had a different life then you.
by learning why they disagree with you you may learn at least some of the lessons they learned that shaped their view.

Those you disagree with, because those you agree with are going to make the same points you already know.

It depends.
If someone has a well thought out argument for why I am wrong, then I can learn something. If nothing else it forces me to think out why they are wrong, or it may make me realise that it is me that is wrong.
If some creationist IDiot come up to me and tells me to forget all that evil science and beelieeve in Jeusus because the Bileble says so!! Then you only thing I learn is that the guy in front of me is a blithering fool.

You can learn from those who know more about a subject than you do. But you have to keep an open mind.
Being open minded doesn't mean you accept what people say, only that you hear their side and try to understand their point of view.

I happen to be an open minded person and I always seek knowledge from one who I disagree with...I can gain insight from one who agrees with me, but there is no challenge.

Disagree with....as long as you keep it a discussion and not a fight or an argument. Abraham Lincoln was a master of this.

those you disagree with.
for maybe they could inlighten you on a subject.
such as, i dont believe theres a god.
but someone else does, perhaps since we disagree on it, we could talk about it and maybe, on will learn to agree with the other?

Probably both.....You need to try & understand both perspectives on what ever it is you are debating about. Not everyone see's things in the same perspective.....You don't have to agree but it helps to understand why they see things the way you do.
