Should the dog run in a straight line and not vary from that straight line, I'd say half way. At which time he'd be running out.
However, dogs are not mathmatical. My dog would be following a scent, traveling this way and that. So he could run for miles before he ever reached "half way in" and still be going in circles and probably never come out...till he got hungry.

Well, if the woods are Dogwood, the dog would be running into the Dogwood until he turned around, then the dog would be running out of the Dogwood.
