I'm in the habit of starting my morning with coffee and toast with honey. Something tells me this heavy carb beginning isn't quite right and probably causes my blood sugar to spike. Still...I can't imagine what to replace it with. (I usually eat a good breakfast later with my husband.) But I need something to get me through the first 3 hours. Any suggestions?

Have one slice of toast cut back on the honey and add some fresh fruit. Or drop the coffee and toast and go with a fruit smoothie. It would be more filling and carry you though that first 3 hours.

Hey there :)
It is good that you do not skip breakfast, as that is bad. Here is a suggestion.
Try a few things. Some people believe that breakfast should be your biggest meal, and they may be right.
I like to have some protein - one egg.
Some fruit- a banana.
Some dairy- low fat yougart.
and some bread- 1/2 a bagle or eng muffin or wheat toast with PB on top (pb is so good for you- keeps cholesterol in check)
I also have a cup of tea to drink (there has been alot of recent findings that black tea is good for you).
Try and ballance it out and get a little of everything your body needs- and just think of the 4 basic food...err I mean food pyramid (got to keep up to date on that lol).
Good luck and have a great day :)

Fruit and low sugar yogurt. Dannon lite has about 7 grams of sugar. Be careful with yogurt a lot of them have more sugar than soda.
Fruit is good carbs and you get your daily intake of fruit.
If you can't have fruit, take a fiber ceral and add that to the yogurt and bam you are set for a few hours.
toast and honey isn't a bad breakfast....but if you have to watch your sugar than don't eat that. There aren't any nutrients either.
Good luck!!

Try adding a boiled egg or a string cheese--quick, easy and the protein will help level out the insulin surge. Even a cup of low fat and low sugar yogurt would be a good choice. You need some protein instead of all carbs. Cheers!

Hello
If you are using a good whole grain wheat bread that sounds like a nice start..if your feeling a littlle need for a tad of protein you could add a teaspoon of peanut butter to your toast! Its good and maybe a half a banana on it is really good. and Healthy ;0)
