The East Village has lots of little shops/independant designer boutiques. Try Tokio 7 at 64 East 7th Street at First Avenue - it's a designer consignment shop. It can get very crowded, but you can find things here you won't see anywhere else. If you like Denim, look at Famous Friends at 616 East 9th Street (between Avenues B and C)

Hey there, first this category is fine....second I just got back from NYC on Wednesday. Take a hop on/hop off tour bus and take the downtown tour. It will take you to Soho, Chinatown, etc. I passed by a lot of great shops that I really wanted to stop in but didn't have time. We also passed through 5th avenue which is a must to just maybe walk down if you have the time a lot of the famous brands are there (Coach, Tiffanys, DKNY, etc.). But for your age, I highly recommend Chinatown and Soho. Have fun shopping!!!

I suggest the SoHo area. It's definitely not cheap and very high-class. But that doesn't mean there ISNT any store that is affordable. You should go, it's a great place to cruise around! Very pleasent and you'll have lots of fun. Did I also mention the best brands name ever?

I third the suggestion for H&M.. super cheap and way cute stuff, especially for your age (I'm 24 and I love it too). chinatown is great if you want some high-quality fakes (gucci, coach, LV) for reaaaaaaallllyyy cheap. but you have to ask shop owners and be discreet.. it IS illegal after all ahahahah

H&M - several in nyc, click the link below for the list
chinatown - by subway on 6, J, M, N, Q, R, W or Z lines to Canal Street station

have fun!!

I take my daughter to the SoHo (Between Houston and Canal) area. The main drag is on Broadway, but there are a lot of boutiques on the side streets also.
