We know that though written by men as secretaries, it was authored by God. We know this by how the over all flow is the same person. Like a Tom Clancy novel, his writing has a flow that makes you need to turn the next page to see what happens next. 1,692 years it took to write from Genisis to Revelations and it all agrees within the 66 books. The purpose of man, the condition of the dead, why Jesus came to earth, all 66 books are in agreement about these things. They bring out different points of view or angles about the same subject but they agree on the subject.
Historical and scientific accuracy also shows the Bible's accuracy. Haughty men have constantly tried to belittle the Bible in one thing after another but have had to crawl back under their rocks when proof came up. The Bible would mention a person such as a king as a real person and detractors would say there is no proof of his existance. Then someone would dig up a pot that had the kings reciept on it. Charles Darwin came up with his evolution theory. At the time, he thought life was no more than some chemical compounds mixed together with water and heat. Science has found, dispite decades of trying, life could not be created in a lab much less by accident. Futher, smaller than what we can see with the naked eye, are building blocks of life intensely complex, pointing to an intelligent creator.
Prophecy. We know when events occured happened in history. We also know when books of the Bible were written. When something is written down years before it happens, that's prophecy. The name of the Persian king, Cyrus; how Babylon would be conquered; the fall of Jerusalem both times; the Messiah--all were foretold years before they happened from 50 to a thousand years before.
Moral. Do you realize that it wasn't till the early 1900's doctors did not wash their hands between surgeries? They did not know germs and bacteria existed. Yet, 5,000 years ago, the God given Mosaic Law had directives was washing hands and body, the draining of blood from food, the handling of body waste. If the human race had followed those habits until today, we probably would not have had the Bubonic Plague, the spanish flu after WW1. If they had occured they would not have killed the millions those diseases did.
Clearly the author of the Bible knew more about life humans can see and can't see.
How about other books claiming to be inspired or lost? In answer, what is the best way to completely mess up a fantastic meal? Dump bad ingredents into the mix. The Bible warns of false prophets trying to mislead many. Do you not think God both could and would preserve His word? Would He allow some of it to become "lost"? To whose advantage would it be to "mess up the mix" or dilute the truth of God's word? The great liar, Satan.
Faith has not entered into the answer though it is the "assured expectation of things hoped for".

Hi...You know, I have had your same question in mind for yrs. And the only answer I had to myself was believe it until proving that its wrong. You are right! The Bible was written by man but also Jesus's disciples. Now I watch a lot of National Geographic and the Discovery Channel and others alike to understand the discoveries on what our archaeologists and scientists have found in their research and findings. I have learned that there were a lot more scriptures and books that the scholars didn't place in the Bible and I ask myself why? What is it, that they don't want us to find or know about. Was Jesus the son of God? Was Mary Magdelena the wife of Jesus? Is Moses real? Was the Ark or the Covenant truth or fiction of someone's imagination? The answer is We don't know. We go by our faith and what we have been taught thru our childhood yrs. We assume it's the truth because we were taught that it was so. We believe what our archaeologists and scientists have found because they are suppose to be icons for the truth. But so are ministers of the faith...go figure. I believe because of my faith. I feel that there had to be some type of Entity to create this universe of ours and who started Evolution. I also believe that this Entity could have produced a son whom was my Savior Jesus Christ. I also feel that with all the discoveries that have been made thru all of these yrs. that all things are possible. Discoveries are made everyday. I also have an open-mind on things. If by chance they find that the Bible and it's contents were not of the truth and was fiction then I would rethink and make a decision when the time came but for now I'm going to believe due to my faith and the love I have for my God until I find out otherwise. Why dwell on something that may never be answered? Have a blessed day!

Your First mistake is to put limits on God , WOW ,who are
you... How do we Know ? . The Bible is the first book written
in this world , also it is the only book to survive all the ages.
The Bible is the inerrant Word of God . Also as a History Book over 300 prophetical accounts have come to pass with detailed accuracy . Also our own science has proved many accounts that were written about in the Bible .Even to the fact of the earth stopped turning as Gods promises to lengthen the day for His elect as told in the Bible .For God sent His Angels , plus Jesus Himself came to make sure that not one word would be added or taken away .It is the only living word of any book in the world and , is still saving millions of lives today . What book can clam that , None .Their have been many ,that have come to prove the Bible false , Great and small men a like . Not one has succeeded , in fact they are now believers and have become saved . Did not Judas hang himself . The Quran among others don't have enlightenment ,
and are as you said written by mere man with man made up
rules . Plus they have been added to and taken from and perverted its true intent . Also , they make & have no clam in Creation .You need to read the Bible in its entirety not skim & pick what you can twist . Any child of the Devil can do that . For you are quick to judge and haven't any substance , but are only out here to led a stray the ones that are comming to Faith .So to all those who read this . Do your own research and do not listen to this person who shows that Satan has a
strong hold in his heart . I could go on and give many facts
but what good would it do to a blind and deaf man . You need
to repent of all your sins and bow to our Living God . Only
then by His Grace you will be able to even start to understand
the Word of God . Right now in your state it would like try to
explain senior college algabra to a 1 year old . Just not going
to happen . May you find God peace and His Blessing be
upon you to know the Truth , Amen............

That's a great question. I can sit here for a week & write an epic tale with rules from god & what not........... god doesn't actually have to tell me what he wants written for me to be "inspired" by it.
By saying they were "inspired" by god, that doesn't mean it was what he wanted to be written.... and personally... it further damages it's credibility. Authors are often inspired by good things and bad things in their lives..... saying the bible was "inspired" by god only means that the person believed so much in their god that they decided to write a story about what things would be like if he really had power over the world.... Or he was so inspired by someone's IDEA of god that he wrote a book about how this god created the universe. There may not have even been all those "authors" to the book... it could've just been one man who wrote everything under different names. What do they call it when an author changes his name? Damn, the word is right on the tip of my tongue! Pen name? No... in any case.... I think that saying the bible is simply "inspired" by god severely damages it's credibility because that is basically saying it was written under the influence of the idea of god....... not because god itself was asking someone to transcribe his autobiography.

the 40 different authors of the Bible all agree as to who God is. These authors came from all walks of life. Some shepherds, some aristocrats, some fishermen. These books in the Bible were written over 1,500 years spanning 3 Continents. Yet the meaning is the same. And what is that meaning? The Old Testament: God's promise to destroy death. The New Testament: How God does this.
A book of fairy tales? I think not. There is no other book on this earth like the Bible. Nobody needs to defend the Bible. The Bible defends itself and offends many of its readers.
God is the lion of Judah and can tear your conscience to shreds. Just read it and do so with a humble and contrite heart and God will reveal himself to you.

There's a verse that says in part, "Try the spirits and see whether they be of God...." In other words, put God to the test according to His Word and your willingness to comply with it and SEE if it's true and accurate. God told John through the angel when he was exiled to Patmos and wrote Revelation, "Write ALL that you hear and see, for these things ARE TRUE and FAITHFUL!" God wanted to make CERTAIN there was an IMMUTABLE record passed from generation to generation until the time of the end in which that generation would have the knowledge and ability to see the truth.

The Bible says that we can receive the Holy Ghost and gifts (power).
Millions of people have God within them today as the Bible promised.
The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truths (if we will listen).
The Holy Spirit confirms the scriptures.

Well for starters the bible is true. It was inspired by god and written by man, just as a secretary writes a card that the boss is dictating. You have to remember that it is Gods Word to humans and gods word has no natural sin. Accurate, of course. There are dates in the bible that were told long before that they would happen, and they did. People in the bible, actually existed.Just like Egypt and farroe. And babalone. Its all there in the bible. There is no reason not to believe wat it says.

...How big is your god (if it is not you, that is)?
...My God is big enough and strong enough to keep His word pure and sound.
...It is geographically and historically accurate.
...The Dead Sea scrolls show the Old Testament to be virtually the same as ours.
...And there are more complete copies of the New Testament than any 10 pieces of antiquated literature.
...I am quite sure that you put Caesar's History of the Gaulic Wars through all the same rigorous tests that you put the Bible through...don't you?
**
P.S. to Jeff J....You can believe Jesus is a mythical person if you wish, but tell me...do mythical people often change your calendar around, based on the myth's birthday?

How do we know the Bible is true? Because it was written by God. How do we know God exists? Because the Bible says so. Best example of a circular argument going.
