yes because pops (aka soda) contains astronomical amounts of refined sugar and excessive amounts of sugar leads to weight gain. However, you would not loose 'tons of weight' just simply by cutting pop from your diet. To loose weight you need to expend more energy (calories) than you are consuming. So a healthy diet (e.g. fruit, vegetables, pulses, grains, legumes etc) and vigourous exercise regime will allow you to loose weight. But remember to consult your GP before going on a diet (esp. if you have heart problems or are currently on any meds etc).

If you look at your average carbonated beverage, you can see that is nothing but useless calories, mostly sugar - with no nutritional value. Two twelve ounce colas could be as much as 15% of your required daily calories. You would have to jog a mile or more to run them off.
The bottom line is: if you consume more calories than you burn, you will get fat. Sodas are a good place to start cutting back.
Water helps your body flush out fat and other toxins. I try to drink a gallon a day. It takes some getting used to.

If you drink a lot of full-calorie soda and then give it up cold turkey, you may lose weight. Personally, I did not lose any weight when I gave up soda, but most people do.

NO! I'm on this sort of diet. That I only drink water and milk and I eat what ever I want, but I'm actually gaining 2 to 3 lbs. It makes me so mad!

for heavy soft drink consumers that is statistically correct if they switch to water and not another drink high in simple sugars.
