How this? Immigrants are welcome to come--open boarders. However--if they commit a crime--they go home - permanantly. They must find gainful employment and stay employed. If they have enough work quarters in to collect unemployment-they can collect unemployment to which they paid into. But-since they are NOT CITIZENS, they are not entitled to ANY government benefits such as medical assistance, food stamps, AFDC, TANF or SS benefits. These programs are for CITIZEN's--NOT ALIENS. So, if they come--they need to be honest, law abiding and SELF SUPPORTING.

Before you whine about how they're so poor they need a hand up to start.........their prospective employers, churches and private organizations, and those who support open boarders are free to help whomever they choose to. Just don't force me to help someone break our laws.

Would that make everyone happy?

Before I get anymore 'snotty' responses, I AGREE--Illegal is illegal and they should be deported--but the reality is that no one is willing to do that. (And if other illegals are getting in now--so are the terrorists). I am suggesting we compromise by saying, Yes--you can have all the immigrants you want IF THEY SUPPORT THEMSELVES AND DON'T BREAK THE LAWS. (If we open the boarders--they can't be illegal just by coming here.) American citizens will not be taxed to support them--remember they must be self sufficient or go home. Taking away all the freebies will cut the number flooding across the boarder to practically nothing. THINK people!

Robin--if we let them come--they won't be illegal and therefore WILL have to pay payroll taxes etc......but good answer. Yes, employers need to sponsor them.......

DAR--great point. There need to be schools for their children. Schools that teach ENGLISH. But, they are not citizens so public school can not be the answer. I'm not sure.......resident aliens need to find their own solution on how to educate their children. Perhaps Churches and non profits could help ensure a safe environment to educate them?

25 people a day are killed by illegal alien criminals. Since this is more than the number of soldiers dieing in Iraq why aren't the democrats as outraged by this?

Fairly reasonable idea, if that was the entire problem. And for some aliens, from some nations, it would help. Unfortunately, the issues with Mexico go far deeper. There are groups in Mexico who do not recognize our ownership of portions of the US - they believe they are still Mexican territory and do not see these migrants as illegal aliens.

The there's also the fact that the border between Mexico and the US are soon going to be a moot point - start doing some research, you'll be amazed...

The immigration laws are already on the books. When anyone enters this country undocumented, they are automatically a criminal. Criminals should be treated as such. Either put to work at hard labor in prison, then sent back to their country, or simply deported immediately. The true criminals are the corrupt or incompetent officials in this country that refuse to enforce the laws they are sworn to uphold. No other country that I know of is so lax about allowing undocumented aliens in their territory. How can we prevent terrorism if we have no idea who is here or where they are from.

I think you have good idea, but I don't think it'll work. If they're illegal, they're not going to be getting a real paycheck, they're not getting taxed, and they won't be contributing to an unemployment program.

I think the companies that hire illegals should be responsible for having them here. They should automatically take the taxes out, and be taxed more themselves. They should be held responsible for the actions of the illegals they hire (say one commits a crime... the company that allowed him in the country should have to pay somewhat for that as well)

I'm not 100% sure there is ever going to be a real solution. But we have to take it day by day.

No.

What is it about ""ILLEGAL"" that people DO NOT UNDERSTAND?!

Better to help the small businesses have to resort to illegal employees, like making the first $3000 of wages paid to any worker exempt from payroll and all other taxes and, expecially, any reporting requirements.

Better also to increase our guest-worker quotas to fill the vacuum left when 'for real' citizens still can't be enticed into taking these jobs.

The laws governing small businesses are so onerous and burdensome that the best recourse is to not just be aware of them and plead ignorance whenever any of the various government agencies come asking for paperwork or other compliance information.

Any illegal that wants to come over to the nation should have to find a liberal to support them. If they become unemployed or do not make enough money to support themselves or the children a registered democrat should be made to take them in and feed them, provide health care, housing, and clothing.

My taxes are high enough, and because I am middle class I cannot afford to support another nations cast-aways. I have a hard enough time supporting my own family.

You're wrong in your premise that the left wants immigrants and that the right doesn't want the undocumented aliens and immigrants. Most Left politicians and activists do not want more cheap labor because it interferes with union organizing and forces the pay scale down. The right wants cheap labor to keep costs down and helps lower the cost of business.

The reality is that both groups publicly declare one policy for consumption (left claims they want to help the poor immigrant and the right declares they want to protect the border and not reward lawbreakers) but they both have hidden agenda which is what makes a coherent immigration policy almost impossible to achieve.

Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. America love it or leave it. Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Leave it Now. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !

What about schools? Our schools are failing under the huge weight of ESL students who wouldn't be here if their parents hadn't come illegally. And no way could anything like you suggest work so long as there is 'birthright citizenship.'

In my opinion, they come for the schools they are too poor to pay taxes enough to cover, at least as much as they come for jobs. However, our schools are now overcrowded, on year round schedules and are taught by emergency credentialled teachers. Each new program to 'fix' them throws more and more at ESL, a huge portion of whom wouldn't be here if their parents hadn't come illegally. Meanwhile our schools are failing our own children, and we are the ones footing the bill.

Their children are not more important than ours.

The idea you,re trying to get across is pretty good , but it will be hard to keep things that way. It will snowball into somewhat the way things are now or close to it. the saying goes,"you give someone an inch, they end up taking a mile".
