It may be that particular cup she doesn't like, try all different ones. I know it's expensive, but you'll find one. I tried 5 before my son took to one (it was the first one I tried mind) and now he has used all the other cups by the same make. Good luck and keep trying. Or it could be she doesn't like water, my son was the same so I give him weak squash (sugar free).

There are several ways to resolve this:
1. Place a tiny tiny amount of squash into his water, and say the relevant thing to make him think it is only squash, not water.
2. Pretend you are making up squash (i.e pouring some squash into a cup then switching it for water at the last minute), then if he questions, say it is squash.
3. Buy some flavoured water and let him drink that.
4. Buy him his own beaker/ cup, but with a lid over the top so he cannot see what is inside. If the sides are clear, make a label or decoration with his name on so it makes it his own ( and he can't see whats inside!!)
5. Buy some odd shaped straws (you know, the ones that have loops in the middle and are brightly coloured, sometimes called novelty straws) and let him use it if he drinks some (not a massive amount at first) of water. If he does that, praise him then very slowly increase the amounts.
6. As he can have other drinks like milk as well, give him some squash or milk as a 'treat' for drinking some water.
I realise these may seem very overreacted advice, but not knowing the situation first hand, I'm sure you can tailor these to meet you and your son's needs.
Hope this all helps!!

My son started out with a cup with those squishy rubber tops like a bottle. I guess it felt familiar. He didn't like the harder versions until he got older. By the way, you didn't mention if he drinks other liquids from the sippy cup. Is it just a problem with water or is it the cup in general?

Hi!
I've had this experience too!
What I did was buy a plastic tea set and we had a tea party!
Put some water in the tea pot and let him be 'Mum' and pour the drinks out!
He'll forget about it being a drink, and it will be an activity which he will think he's in control of. Make sure you use all the right language, like 'Could you please pour Mummy a cup of tea', and when you sip it 'Oh, this is delicous!'.
Try this - I hope it helps!
Best of luck!

Just give him a lidded cup with water and let him play how he wants; if it splashes/sprays around; ignore it. Praise when he gets it 'right'. He will start eventually, and a half cup of water isn't going to drench that much...

my son was addicted to milk so i found it hard to get him to drink water. Then i started getting the mineral water bottles emptying the water ( children under a certain age arent allowed mineral water) and filling it with ordinary tap water. He loved drinking it and it made him feel all grown up. Just try to get the bottles with the sports cap as they're easier to drink from.

Try a cup with a straw! Or the kind with one of those flip up tops. Or try just a regular cup wtih no top (obviously with you holding it). Sometimes wee ones can be surprised into taking the action that you want them to.
