I'm currently looking for a car on eBay and I want to make sure I know the history before I get it. What has more reliable information? Carfax or autocheck. They're both the same price for unlimited access so which one gives more info for the money?

Stay away from carfax they claim to have the most sources but their information is so far out of date that it is worthless.

I've had good results with Carfax. Just be careful when buying a car on Ebay. Carfax will not pick up a car that has been treated badly by the owner, or in an accident that was not reported to insurance. Vehicle histories only pick up accident reports and claims.

Not sure about autocheck, but I'd seriously beware of carfax. They don't receive accident reports from 23 states, even though they are reported to police and insurance companies. Thats a major pitfall, making their service useless in almost half of america, in my opinion. They were sued awhile back for not properly disclosing this, and they still don't, really. It's in the fine print.

I have two vehicles, which I know where in accidents, both of which were reported to police and had claims filed with insurance companies, and when I ran the VINs, they came back clean.

Don't listen to "informatica". He works for carfax. Check his answer history. He's just a spammer.

Carfax has around 20,000 data sources - Autocheck just a few hundred. Even with all that - Carfax does not have all the data - just way more than anybody else has ever assembled.

You need an inspection in addition to a vehicle history report.
