I don't claim to be very knowledgeable about the Bible but in answer to the part of your question "do you think the bible has major parts missing!?!to throw us off?" I will say the following.

The Bible really wasn't a book of the written word for a very long time. Therefore most of the Bible stories would have been told and retold by people. I'm sure that at some time or other you have told a friend something about your life and a few weeks later you heard the story from someone else whom you didn't tell. The story had definitely changed from the original!!!!

People will only repeat the parts that were important to them, the parts they think would be of interest to the person they are telling the story to, or when they have forgotten or don't know the answer ... they tend to insert something that they think would make sense, simply in order to keep the story alive and travelling the grape vine. LOL

I don't think that any of the biblical writings are meant to "throw us off" ... they are simply stories that were handed down by word of mouth for centuries and the final written result would therefore definitely have some flaws.

Have faith ... but you don't have to believe EVERYTHING in the Bible verbatim! I wish you peace!

It's allegorical. God neither regrets nor grieves as we do than He walks in gardens or has hands or arms. These are figurative things to explain a mystery to us.

The *best* I can explain is that in man's evil against God, it caused Him some sort of internal strife (God is love, and if you love someone, and they refuse you, then you suffer inside for it). That is what happened. Again, that also, is an allegory, but it's the only way we can say anything about what God. Otherwise, we can just say what He is not.

I think that, as with any historical document, humans have changed things over time.

Did you ever play the game 'Operator' as a kid? A simple phrase changes as passed from one person to another over a matter of minutes. Imagine the changes over centuries starting with non-literate societies spreading it by word of mouth then going through multiple copies and lingual translations.

That being said, the Bible is the best example of the Word of God that we have. We must take from it what God intends. When I read the Bible I always pray that God will give me the ability to understand what it is He wants me to know.

No. God did not make a mistake. All of His ways are perfect and just. He regretted what had happened and He wanted to change it.

We should remember that these people were primitive in their thinking and they tried in their own way to describe the meaning of whatever God did and this was not a simple matter for them.
