help with word?

Ok, I had to get my computer fixed not to long ago, and they had to wipe my drives and reinstall the original programs. With that, means I'm stuck (once again) with Microsoft Office on my computer. I have no codes to this program, so my Word doesn't work.

Last time, I removed Office and installed Works Suite. Word worked perfectly. This time, Office won't leave! I removed it using the Add/Remove feature, but it's still there, lurking under Program Files. Nothing I do will get rid of it so I can have my Word back.

Please help! My job depends on this!

I don't like Office because I don't have that silly code to get it to work. I never got the code, so it never worked. Why should I use something that's not working. If I had the code, I'd keep it on my computer.

You might check you file authorization level. Go to the directory where MS Office is located and right click the folder, click properties. If the Read Only box is checked, uncheck it. That might be affecting your ability to change/delete the files. You will need the correct file permissions, so logging in as administrator will help.

If that doesn't work, as a temporary work-around you could download Open Office (it's free). I personally prefer Word to Open Office and/or Wordperfect, but if you need to do word processing today for work, it should work and it can save the files as Word files if you need to send them to other people.

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does perform the following functions:

If you use this utility to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you plan to reinstall the program, you should reinstall the program in the same folder where you originally installed it. This prevents duplication of files on your hard disk or disks.
