Martinis are fun, and there are many different kinds. Vodka and whatever. Check out a bartender's guide and look up the myriad cocktails available. It will be fun.

A Mojito. Very refreshing and no harsh tast.
One teaspoonful sugar
Juice and rind of a green lime
Sprig of mint
2 or 3 mint leaves
One jigger Bacardi Rum
Several pieces of ice
Fill glass with soda water.

If I'm in the mood for something different I'll often tell the bartender what sort of drink I'm looking for (maybe something with cranberry juice or something rum based) and I'll see what he suggests. I've had some great drinks that way. And it's usually an interesting conversation!

Arnold Palmers (half plain iced tea, half lemonade). Virgin Marys (Spicy V8 or NA bloody mary mix garnished the same as a real bloody mary). Cranberry/club soda, forgot the name of it. But I'd just order a club soda with a wedge of lime if I weren't drinking.

Mix your favorite juice or soft drink with a shot (or splash) of vodka or rum, over crushed ice. Drinks mixed at a bar can vary widely in quality and alcohol content, but if you specify shot or splash it should be pretty mild.

My wife loves a dirty Shirley. It is a Shirley temple with Malibu rum on top. 7 up,Grenadian and Malibu rum
