Do you like them or hate them or somewhere in between?

Do you want one, or none, a few, or a lot?

Do you have one or some already-- or do you swear you will never get one?

Personally, I have no tattoos or piercings. To family, I give typical boring reasons, but my reasons are not the truth. I will say things like, "well, it's permanent and I do not want to make a hasty decision about something that is forever (or at least not easily removed) and it also affects how others see a person." In truth, words, images, and punctures of the body have powerful meanings and should never be taken lightly. It is like the old legends about not telling your name to just anyone. A misunderstood image, placed liberally on the body, can bind you to something to which you would not wish to be bound, and might not even realize you are bound. I would know what I am doing before choosing what I would bind myself to... something to think about.

Personally, I do not like them.
It is a permanent mark on your body that is costly and leaves a lasting scar when removed. Too many make this decision without giving it much thought. They call tatoos body art.
Well the only person it is good for is the Tatoo artist who is making money. Tatoo shops have crop up all over now and many cities have many which means they are making lots of money.
My father had a few tatoos as it was common for serivce men back in the early 1900's. When he got into his 60's they looked terrible. They were faded, blended together and hardly readable or noticable. It almost looked like a bruise and nothing more.
Sure the tatoo artists tell you they can redo them but I have seen when they try to copy over the work of another artist. It looks awful.
As far as piercing, I only agree with the ears. Other places are more prone to infection and can be a health hazard like the tongue, belly button, eyebrow, and nose. How do you clean your nose properly when you get ill. To me it is just an inconvenience and really does nothing to attract people. Sure you can mend the holes later so it is better that tons of tatoos.

One small tatoo is no harm done. But covering your body in tatoos can set you into a box for life. What happens when your life changes? What happens when your children ask why you have so many marks all over your body? What happens when they ask to do the same thing and you no longer like the ones you got when you were young? You are tired of them or they no longer fit your personality? We all grow and change and tatoos do not. They are permanent fixtures of your life.

I agree with you 100%.

I actually have both. 4 Tattoos and 7 piercings, 11 with my ears.
I happen to be the assistant to the owner of a recording studio and manage it. So I'm not lacking in the professional arena.
When I was younger I loved both, I had 2 tattoos before I was 20. As got older and started nearing 30 I felt I was getting too old and considered taking out everything except my nose piercing.
I then realized though that if I enjoyed having my tattoos and piercings who cares how old I am? Why give up something I enjoy for a stupid reason.

And I've heard those who say what will happen when you are 80 years old? My answer is who cares? Ifyou're sure you want a tattoo when you're 20 or 30 get it and enjoy it. Maybe it may not turn out to look too nice when you are 80 but that can be a long way off.

With that said piercings are fun and can look good. However if you want a tat make sure you find something that has meaning to you. Don't just get something to have it. The best way is to come up with a design that has meaning rather than finding one in a book.

My attitude towards tattoos are that they can be a work or art, or downright trashy. There is a line to which these separate, but lately, many tattoos have gone along the trashy style, owing to their increasing popularity. Not to anger anyone, of course quite a few tattoos nowadays are for an honest, beautiful reason! Piercings are fine, but sometimes things should not be pierced. Ex - Prince Albert, Bridge. I think some piercings are just slightly weird, but it's their body, I can't really judge. It becomes self-mutilation when it becomes obsessive, in my eyes. It's all new to be accepting to piercings and tattoos. It's just that sometimes, it doesn't look professional and it still dates back to when mostly hooligans got tattoos. Good luck :D

Piercings don't interest me personally, because I'm just not a jewellery person at all, but I think for other people making moderate use of them is fine.

I have 2 tattoos and i'm getting a 3rd next week - each of mine has it's own deeply personal meaning - and will get more in the future. The fact that one day, if I live long enough, my tattoos will be faded is something that I've accepted and am quite prepared to live with, because you know what? By that time I'll also have grey hair (if I have hair at all), few teeth, bloodshot eyes and wrinkled, coarse skin. I'll already be wearing the scars of a difficult life like badges of courage, and a few more aren't going to matter much.

I like tattoos and piercings. I have both.

I waited till I was much older to get a tattoo. I put a lot of thought into them. They symbolize a very big part of who I am.
I just have several ear piercings. But again each one means something. The first was when I crossed the equator on a ship, the second was for a relationship and the third was for getting my PhD.

I think there are many great reasons to get them. Some are personal meaning,. Some are just art. But none should be taken lightly.

I have seen many tattoos that are soul-less. These are the ones that are regretted later. But a tattoo that represents something special to you will be proudly displayed forever.

i am only 15 and i have many piercings and want many tattoos. i feel that tattoos and piercings are a way to express yourself. if someone sees you in a negative way because of them then they arent a very good person. these people obviously dont know the reason behind why you got them and what they mean. your tattoos and piercings should be for you and your own likings and reasons.

Everybody has their own opinions. Some people are gonna like them and some people aren't. Just like everything else! People are gonna make judgements of you no matter what. They will find a reason. That's how people decide who they associate with. If you have visible tattoos than certain people are gonna condemn you for it, especially girls. Personally I have 3 tattoos and i plan to get more. It's about expressing yourself in a unique way and not caring about what others think. Tattoos are a form of art that mean something personal to the wearer..or they should be. Some people just get them because they are a fad right now...and they are the ones who will regret it when they are 80. The people who get them for sentimental reasons will not care because it will still have meaning for them.

I have my eyebrow pierced, my nose pierced, and my tongue pierced. My eyebrow and nose piercings are tiny, I think they're cute. I don't want any other piercings. I just got my first tattoos last summer. I have 18 tiny stars on each foot. They start on my big toe, and they go diagonal across my foot. I want more tattoos, but not sure what, or where. I'm kinda picky when it comes ot tattoos. I would NEVER put a tattoo on my arms.....I think it doesn't look right on girls. But, I like mine!!!!

Other than pierced ears, I don't care for piercings much. I wouldn't dream of telling you not to get one because it is your body and you should do whatever you like. I just don't like them.

I find tattoos less objectionable, but I rarely see any good ones. Although there are lots of very talented tattoo artists out there, I find that the public - at - large, chooses their tattoos unwisely, putting ugly images in terrible locations on their bodies.
