So he can teach future generations that he is capable of punishing sin even if it means re-doing his creation...

For the same reason he will eventually pull out his eraser again. It is said God is perfect, and man was created in his image, not his perfectness. Maybe he WAS trying to crate a perfect replica and it was the creation that failed.
Heck, the first Eve ( Lilith) was a let down and he whipped up Eve #2 ( the one we know) to give woman another go at it.
My, Grandfather used to say, " I used to think there were only two perfect people, God and me,...But, now I'm beginning to wonder about God." Ego joke .......get it?
FYI...Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil...Eve chose to ignore the rules and tempted Adam, neither were given "free will", they took it.
Not everyone was warned of the coming flood, while several people were warned about the impending doom in the city of Sodom and Gamorah which also was destroyed by a unhappy God.
And, last but not least, Not all humanity was destroyed in the great flood as Noah wasn't the only one instructed on how to proceed and given plans for an ark.

All of the prophets that wrote the Bible said God was perfect, but they never said God's creations were perfect. If you read Genesis 6:5, God saw that man became too wicked. Apparently, it was not possible for men to live together without killing one another. God saved Noah and his family, but God didn't save anyone else because they were too wicked and violent. Planet earth would have been the most violent place in the galaxy if God had not intervened. Noah was the only man that listened to God. Everyone else simply did whatever he wanted. The final result was genocide. Read the Book of Revelation sometime. What happened in Genesis should happen again if you believe the Bible.

There's three explanations for the flood:
1. Nonreligious - didn't happen/nature
2. Religious- God was upset and sought to deliver his wrath upon the face of the earth saving none except for his new Adam/eve couplings. This doesn't really make sense to me because wouldn't God have saved the righteous and punished the wicked? Everyone else was wicked? On the whole earth? Yeah OK.
3 Religious & my favorite- It was preordained by God, from the very beginning. Because (wait for it): The earth had to be baptized so it could attain perfection in the SECOND coming of Christ. See there's two parts: Baptism and consecration. Consecration is most often represented as fire. So when Christ returns the earth has to be baptized and consecrated to become perfect and holy. So we knocked out the baptism with the flood and, if you believe in it, the earth will be engulfed in flames upon Christs return.

He certainly didn't erase his creation. Once again in true biblical history, we see God "sanctifying" (to call out or set apart) His chosen people. This happens throughout the bible with God's chosen people. (ie. Egypt/Pharoah) And luckily for me, it still happens. I was a murdering lying cheating adulterous thief; God saw it right (for some reason) in His infinite goodness and mercy to call me from the muck and mire to be one of his "Trophies of Grace". The truly awesome thing about the flood is that more than 60 different cultures have a flood history!!! What a great platform on which to witness.

God didn’t erase His creation with the flood. Noah (who built the ark) and his family (including wife, sons/daughters & their wives/husbands) along with 2 of each species (male & female) were not killed. Noah, his family and all the species brought onto the ark were all “created” by God and as such are considered His creations. Once the flood subsided, Noah, his family and the 2 of each species were then used to re-populate the earth.

Because they had to make God look powerful and scary to all of those whom they attempted to convert. What better way to help a religion take hold than by suggesting god slaughters non-believers with natural occurrences?
They did not realize the logical fallacy, of course. No omnipotent god would need to do any such thing, being aware of every possibility.
Of course, this is all silly, as there is no personal god. Nor is there evidence to support such a concept. Millions of people can argue about theology, explain those bible stories so it feels less cruel, and still get it wrong.

always think that God will always be perfect!
You said "If God is perfect, why did he have to erase his creation with the flood?", basically what your trying to aks are comparison to human imperfection!
Evrything He is doing are subjected because He loved his people. Humans are naturally i,perfect!
REASON WHY HE NEED TO ERASE THE EARTH AND TO START A NEW LIFE AGAIN!

God IS perfect.
His creation became corrupt when the fall of man happened in the Garden of Eden. As time went on, mankind became so corrupted by sin that their thoughts were always continually evil.
It was, believe it or not, not what He wanted, but did make use of it in His divine plan.
Were anyone to go on at length on this subject, discussing all the types and meanings, they would have enough material for a book.
Not a bad idea. Any good theological writers reading this?

1. He is perfect but that has nothing to do with men who out of their G-d given right to choose, chose to rebel against G-d.
2. he did not "erase" mankind for Noah survived
