It is not as bad as drinking sodas but your main source of liquid should be water. I hated water for years. Here's how I 'trained' myself to drink it. First I did drink gatorade or whatever. Then I started drinking plain water (had to be ICE cold!) with fresh lemon squeezed in--a lot! Then I weaned myself down to just one lemon slice, then none. I also found for a long time I could only drink it out of a water bottel--I have no idea why!! But after time I got used to water, started to crave it and now my body knows when it feels hungry or thirsty to reach for water! Most of the time when u think you'r ehungry u are really thirsty. By the time u "need" water u are already dehydrated. I wouldnt waste too much time one drinks other than water (despite how the coke companies claim sodas count as your liquid intake--sorry I'm not biting that crap) U have to watch the sugar and calorie intake in the flavored waters, gatorades, and sodas. Gatorade is meant for extreme athletes losing electrolytes thru extreme exercise.
Otherwise, u need water. Try green or white tea also, iced is fine. I'd limit the fake sugars, they ar enot good for you also! Best of luck! Amy

I think Crystal Light may be a better alternative than gatorade. It is lower in sugar and only 5 calories a serving. Tastes great!
Vitamin water is a good choice as well.

My method to going from soda to plain water was similar to Amy's. I used to buy the carbonated flavored water from Kroger, when it was only $.50 a half liter. (My parents said that that was too expensive. I pointed out that it was the same price as either a Coke or Pepsi two liter on sale, or the regular priced store brand, but the water is healthier. That quieted them.) I didn't like the carbination, so I would mix it with regular water. When I had an empty liter, I would fill that with half water and half flavored. When the liters went up to $.65 a bottle, I would pour less flavored into the regular. By thte time the price went up to $.75, I had weaned myself from it.

However, I would still put sweetner in my water. I couldn't really drink it otherwise. After I became pregnant, I weaned myself from that, thinking that the excess sweetner wasn't good for the baby. Now I pretty much only drink plain water and I like it. On occasion, I'll put a lemon in (if I get some at a restaurant and don't use them all, I'll just bring them home) with some sweetner.

I agree with the bottled water. I have a friend who works for the Coca-Cola office/branch/distribution center in Detroit. The Dasani that is made there comes straight from whatever river goes by Detroit, or the lake or something. (I've only lived in a Detroit suburb for eight months, and I still don't know. We're moving again in August, so maybe I didn't want to get myself too acclamated with the area...) We have a Pur water filter on our kitchen faucet. We have gallon jugs from when we used to take them to the filling stations at the grocery store that we fill up so we have them ready to put in the fridge or out by the fridge for when one runs out. The cold water is for drinking, the other jug is for cooking. Admittedly, I don't use it for cooking as much (I figure that the boiling kills stuff, too),but I do use it for when I make coffee (Which I also cut back on since I became pregnant.)

It's to the point now that I will just fill up a cup (it's about two measuring cups' worth) with water and sip it mindlessly when I'm on the computer, reading, even doing chores, I'll pause a moment and take a sip. I rarely drink soda any more (something else I severely cut back on with the baby), either. Most days it's just soy milk and water. This is one well hydrated kid.

no, water is the bestthing to drink as water. you can try to spruce it up a bit with a slice of lemon.

gatorade does not process in your body as water - it processes as a food.

vitamin water may cause you to have an excess of vitamins in your system - which is just as bad, or worse than not enough vitamins.

Water is essential toward your body digestion and it helps clean your blood from bad particles.

Not even gatorade can replace water

the human body is contains mostly water so it is important to consume it. however water in any form is better than no water at all (flavored water vs soda)
also just a little food for thought people spent millions of $ a day on bottled water thinking it is better for them and they assume it is pure and free of bacteria...WRONG.... if you live in a city try growing bacteria from city water and then culture bacteria from bottled water in your micro class, you will be amazed. city water has many standards to meet and rarely will culture anything in a petri dish......bottled water on the other hand is full of furry creatures.
