The answer lies in the OPPORTUNITIES presented to you. It is true that lesser educated people sometimes get lucky, but it is also very true that the more expansive your knowledge base, the more you learn and experience and the more wisdom you acquire...the more opportunties will be available to you.
Your parents, who sound so very wise, know this. Trust them, throw yourself completely into your studies. The world will be yours.

In theory people who get more education have more opportunities, but in my experience that just isn't true.
My friend makes a tonne of money as a personal assistant to the owner of a business. She didn't graduate high school and didn't work for 8 years as she stayed home with her daughter. Then she landed this job that is minutes from her house, pays well, and doesn't have long hours.
My husband has a half-finished degree in theatre tech, makes a good living in the audio business because he pushed, made contacts, and is good with people.
His cousin makes good money in security, didn't even finish grade 10 I believe.
I graduated with honours from college -after not finishing high school, and the last job I got was the worst one yet. It payed just slightly more than minimum wage. I made more than that when I was working part time in high school.
Opportunity is what you make of it, and a bit of luck. I know I have never been asked about a high school diploma in a job interview, and that on job applications that specifically ask and say you won't be hired without one I usually still got an interview and oftentimes the job. I never lied, I just left the section blank.
So while I think that it doesn't hurt to study hard, and I certainly enjoyed higher education (high school sucks, it's just babysitting for teenagers). I don't think education is the be all and end all.

And the more you learn the more Questions you can Answer on Yahoo! Answers.
Actually I am amazed with all of the Questions that get posted that anyone could look up in a dictionary or online, with just a minimal of research they'd know the answer themselves.
You are right, some who don't study have a fine life. But, when we are saying "Study, so you can have a better life" we are not talking about a better life today, we are talking about a better life as an adult. As stated by previous answers, giving you more opportunities.
Good luck, thanks for a good question :)

The answer is simple. If you do have a goal in life that what you want to do and you do not have the direction, study will be the only best option. Most parents assume their kid cannot make their own decisions of what or who they want to be. Even if you could make your own decision that you have higher chances that make the wrong one. So to make things simple, as a parent, they advise you not to take the risk and go to the study. If you really can take the risk and you really SURE want you want to do in life and what you want to do in life cannot be achieved by study, why don't you just go for it and stop studying? But you have to take full responsibility of the action that you have taken. Think of it, do you know what exactly you want to be when you're 30 or 40 years old?

Your parents are trying to help you not to make the mistakes that they did. You should listen and study, and then when you graduate, you should go to school and be all that you can be. I know that life may be harder where you are at, but if you put your mind to it, you can help your family overcome money issues.
Your parents made a choice by not going totally through with what they needed to get through, and they want your life to be better. Only you can decided your future. You have to make these choices for yourself, and I am going to tell you right now, living in the states with no income and my husband making very little has not been easy, in fact my husband and I are going back to school and seeing what we can do to get a better paying job.

The more you study and learn, the better chance you have at having a better life. It doesn't always mean that you WILL, but that you CAN. If you don't study and are uneducated, the chance of struggling financially is much higher, because you don't have as many options. Education gives you options.

In most societies those with the highest level of education make the most money. Plus you have to look at the economy of Romania as a whole, you just came out from under communism in 1989. That's a factor.

You study so you get good grades, from there the good grades will let you go to a good college, and get a degree in something, and from there is how you make your life better. If you dont study and you do poor in school, then you cant get into a good college. Also if you do poor and go to college your going to have to take even more classes in college because they will test you to see how your skills are. So therefor if you score low your going to have to start with lower classes and then work your way up to the classes you need for your degree. So bottom line is to study and do good in school because everything will be alot easier if you do.
