Why do they only take examples from groups that are either very obscure, outdated (ie. Motely Crue), or exclusively heavy metal? (I don't enjoy heavy metal). Is it that they can't find examples among mainstream music or other genres of rock and pop? And they still talk about backwards masking, which was discredited in the '80s?? Does anyone still take any of that seriously?

I think you have already found the answer - they just do not like the one form of music. I for one do not take any of that seriously, and I do not care for Motley Crue's music either.
If the backwards subliminal tracks really do work, what is to stop the christians from using the same method to spread their "message"?
p.s. Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest are hardly "obscure."

I believe some sings are satanic, but not all. I listen mostly to christian music, but ever now and then I mix in some Johnny Cash.
