I don't want to get him flowers, b/c that would embarrass him. Does anyone know what the norm is for boys? Balloons? Nothing? I want to acknowledge his hard work in some way.

how about taking him out for his favorite meal or ice cream? i don't think boys go in much for little things like flowers. whenever my boys were in a school play or music presentation, we went to the local family restaurant for the ice cream sundae of their choice.
it was fun and they felt special.
tell your son congratulations for me.

Get him a small photo album personalized with the name and date of the event and take lots of pictures.
