The world is a scary place, and humans want to feel secure.

Religion is no more or less of a "comfort blanket" than cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, fast cars, sex or the cinema

It could be that way. But why religion? Someone may bury himself in astrophysics books because he is insecure.
Religion is just one covering. Then tell me who is really secure, and of what. What are you secure of?
Anyone is insecure of something; someone finds comfort in a doctrine, or another person, or a sport car, or the bottle. Religion is probably the most pernicious one, seeing the amount of distress it has caused in the past and present.
But God, no, God is not religion, God is real. Jesus in the discourse of th mount listed all the blessings for those who are ... insecure. so ... blessed are the insecure ....

No it isn't. I used to think the same thing until I discovered the complete opposite. If you use religion as a comfort blankie it is totally wrong use of your religion. How do you tell the difference? The fact that you go around thanking God for every second of the day, weather its good or bad, that shows that you don't turn to religion for comfort. You turn to It because of you love to God.

Now, if you only remember God when you have a problem and forget about Him when everything is smooth.........I think that is wrong to do it to a friend, let alone your Creator. And yes THAT is turning to religion for security.

Looking forward for more of your questions!

In a way, religion is a comfort blanket. It's a way for those who follow God in the same way to gather together and worship.

Sure they are insecure people in churches today, but aren't there insecure people everywhere?

Believing your in faith and standing up for it is not for the faint hearted.

Religion is ridiculous. It is an organized set of rules to control people. Religion and faith in God are two totally different things. I think you can have faith and believe in God without being religious. I used to go to church regularly, I have attended many different types of churches and as I grew older and I have to say that it is basically for those who need some kind of guidance of right and wrong because they can't figure it out for themselves. Just because one goes to church and says for example "I am a Christian" doesn't mean they are any better than the next guy, they just claim to be and on top of it, they have the holier than thou attitude. Like I said, it is ridiculous.

People go into religion because they acknowledge that there is a spiritual world besides a natural world. It has nothing to do with insecurity but all to do with having sensitivity with things of the spirit.

It might be for some people, but not all. I've always been pretty secure in who I am and what I'm doing in this world, even apart from my spirituality.

But my faith gives an added depth to my life, and I really enjoy my church affiliation. I get a lot of enjoyment from my religious practices, and it's a positive force for me.

I wouldn't say a comfort blanket to all people who are insecure maybe some.

For the rest of them it's more like a crutch. It's a way of life, more like tradition then anything else.

Somehow Christianity got to be the "popular" thing to do. The "cool" thing.

Yes they rattle on and on about how persecuted they are. Hmph.

Nope.

Because of the attacks regarding my belief I feel that I am more secure because of them.... not in spite of them.

I'm secure in Christ, that's all I need. Insecurity is the result of seeking others approval.

Thanks for asking.
