It's a matter of personal taste. I like a-asymmetry: every room in my house is/would be different, if I did it again. There is a lot to be said for symmetry on the Macro scale, but it's the details that make homes interesting.

When you install the wood floors, the wood should all go the same way. However, if the rooms are separate and the wood is different then you are good to go.

Although this is simply a preference thing, I have seen houses that the wood runs in different direction, I dont think that it look right but that may just be me. I think that the homeowner liked it and that is all that matters.

If you want to make your floor just look like a regular floor, run it the same way. Also run the wood the direction of the long part of the house. It just looks better

It is a matter of preference as to the angles you choose but certainly if your rooms are running together you should keep your angles the same. If you have a separate space and wish to do a different angle, again it's your preference. Draw it out if you can beforehand and see what looks best.

Leave 1/2" gap around the perimeter to allow for expansion. Shoe mould will cover this gap. Do not nail the shoe to the flooring
