After having seen many people die as a nurse, I would say in general, people die as they have lived. By that I mean, a sweet person dies peacefully, a mean person violently.
The body stops working and the spirit slips out of it through the head and goes...where? I do not know.

All of us here and there have not yet died. If you are there (there referring to the act of being in a given place whether on this Earth or elsewhere) then for sure you aren't dead. So logically, you "die" when you are no longer "there".

Your heart stops beating- This stops oxygenated blood from fuelling your brain and it stops functioning- the electrical signals stop. No brain function = death.
