PRAYER is a Silent or spoken petition made to God or a god. Prayer has been practiced in all religions throughout history. Its characteristic postures (bowing the head, kneeling, prostration) and position of the hands (raised, outstretched, clasped) signify an attitude of submission and devotion. Prayer may involve confessions of sin, requests, thanks, praise, offerings of sacrifice, or promises of future acts of devotion.

I feel PRAYER is like ONE WAY TREFFIC. We talk to God but God does not talk but show his reply only by actions -

1. God does not listen to the wicked.
2. You need to pray to God, not Christ, this is the Almighty, Jehovah or Yahweh.
3. sometime during the prayer you have to state that you pray in the name of Jesus Christ or Christ Jesus.
4. You need to be respectful. You talk -- God listens
5. God may chose to answer positively or with a No! just like any parent.
6. Prayers shouldn't be 100% self-centered
7. See model prayer that Christ taught for setting priorities.

Sorry, but an explanation involves more than seven lines.

Heaven helps those who help themselves, they say. And so correct prayer should involve the following, more or less, in this order:
a) Desire
b) Plan
c) Execution

The only part of prayer that involves God (or whatever one prays to) is the plan. Most of us never bother to find out what God's idea of our desire is: does He agree or does He disagree with our desire in the first place? But when we take the pain to find out if God agrees with our desire and follow God's plan for us, we do not have problems.

The idea that prayer should include praise worship is reducing God to our human level of thinking: that perhaps we can influence Him by telling Him what He knows. This is why going the extra mile when you want to succeed is a better form of prayer than simply fasting and praising God for the same purpose.

Prayer is merely putting your thoughts and emotions into words. Prayers do not have any supernatural power, but they may have value and power to the individual reciting them. Simply saying a prayer will not get you anything. However, prayers often act as a person's verbal expression of commitment to change something. They pray for it and then make it happen.

While we often still think of prayer primarily as asking God for something, prayer, properly understood, is a conversation with God or with the saints. Just as we cannot hold a conversation with another person unless he can hear us, the very act of praying is an implicit recognition of the presence of God or the saints here with us. And in praying, we strengthen that recognition of the presence of God, which draws us closer to Him. Peace and every blessing!

Prayer is just talking to GOD.

1Pe 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Prayer is the way we talk to God and the way He can talk to us. Prayer is communing with God and telling Him your deepest concerns and desires and adoring Him and asking for forgiveness and thanking Him for a day of blessings. Prayer is important for me in starting my day. This prayer to the Lord arms me for this new day.

Prayer is the internal fellowship and communion one has with his/her creator. Prayer is a form of worship which is the hearts expression of gratitude to God. Prayer is a partnership with God in reconciling outcomes towards the mercies and judgements in line with the sovereign will of God. While God does need our prayers in order to implement His will, it is His desire that we be a part of Divine interlude through our communications with Him.

To Me prayer is just starting a conversation with God. I first begin with praising him for what He has done in my life and then also tell him the needs and requests concerning me and my fellow beings. At last i close the conversation when he has his word to me through the Holy Spirit.
