Had £2300 on the UK lottery myself late last year.
Probably means I'm now even over the time I've been playing.
Also know someone who had £1500 on a scratchcard

I never met anybody who ever won any decent amount of money. I do agree with you that it is a conspiracy and a big waste of time and money. If you just do the math you'll realize it's a waste of money, because the chances of you winning are so infinitesmal that even if you bought 10 tickets every day your chances would still be minute.
Part of the reason I've never met anyone who won the lottery or those $10K cash lotteries is because I'm Muslim, and it's against my religion to partake in gambling or lotteries where you risk money.
I like free lotteries though. For example, right now Coca-Cola is having this promotion program called My Coke Rewards. You can enter the codes from under the caps online for a chance to win some pretty cool prizes, but nothing huge like over 20K. But I guess you could say if my intention in buying the coke product was to enter the code for a drawing then I'd be gambling. But the website also lets you gather points to purchase these cool items, for example for 420 points you can get a neat NCAA college basketball for one of the big schools like UCLA or LSU.

I also think playing the lottery is a waste of money, there are just so many numbers it is very difficult. You can win money on the scratch off tickets on the 5,10, & 20 dollar tickets I have won $100. many times and around 2 years ago on a $10. scratch off ticket I won $10,000. dollars (7500) after taxes. But I really do best on the slot machines in the casinos, you have to do what you feel lucky in.

There are not many big winner tickets on the scratcher games because the non-winnings tickets collect the money needed to pay the winners and make the profit for the lottery.
Don't buy tickets that have been out for a long time,if your buying x-mas tickets the following Nov.,it's a good bet the winners have been claimed.
